Tomorrow is a heck of a day.

8AM: I deliver Duchess to the vet
9:45AM: I deliver Rob to the surgery center; I wait there
10:45AM: Rob gets wheeled into the OR for foot surgery
1PM(ish): Rob is conscious enough to come home
After that: I put Jell-O on the table near him & get him anything he needs
Later: I go get ice for Rob's cold machine
5:30PM: I pick up Duchess & some prescription food from the vet

I'm going to be exhausted, and I'm not the one who has to have surgery. I wish I could somehow make this easier on him.

Ice for the cold machine! This I have experience with, with my mom after her foot surgery!

Get bottles of water, and stick them in the freezer TONIGHT ... Enough for two rotations. Put *those* in the ice machine, surrounded by water. Worked GREAT, and lasted WAY longer! (And for my mom, who was by herself a lot, she was able to put the bottles in a backpack and change it herself by going to/from the freezer - the water didn't need changing, just the bottles swapping out.)

(hugs) and good luck to you both!

Wow, thanks! Our biggest problem is that there's no room in the freezer. That's why we're looking at purchasing ice. Hey, how about sticking cold-packs in the cold machine? One door-shelf of our freezer is nearly all cold-packs. :)

That works just as well! Seriously - it's great - there's no dumping of water, etc. because you just cycle through the ice packs!

Oh - and make sure he's hooked up to that baby right away! It made ALL the difference for my mom! She had the OTHER foot done a couple years before, and was MISERABLE ... the ice machine and the good drugs made a HUGE difference for her this time - and she was in great shape! The cold machine was REALLY good!

That's what Rob says the doctor said, too. (If you can parse that you're doing better than I am.) A patient of hers had one foot done with and one without, and that patient came back to the office saying "You have to MAKE EVERYONE use these machines!" I'm glad to hear it'll help him.

(I think I did really well just icing the heck out of my feet, but then I am surprisingly good at following doctors' orders for stuff like that. I honestly did have ice on them the entire time I was awake. I opted not to have the cold machine because with both feet out of commission at once, I was going to have enough trouble moving around.)

Good luck to the three of you!

Thank you!

Good luck to you and your charges.
May everyone have everything go well. And may Rob be back on his healthier feet soon.
And don't forget to get some rest when you can. You still have that stuff and you don't want to have a relapse. Everyone is depending on you, so be sure to take care of yourself, too!
*hugs*

A good point. Thanks! At least there are times in there when I can nap. :-)

~swift and complete healing vibes~ for you, Rob, and the kitty.

Umm, that's assuming Dutchess is a cat. Please substitute proper animal type if not.

*grin* Yes, she's a cat! :-) Thank you.

I'm going to be exhausted, and I'm not the one who has to have surgery.

I can so relate to this. Best wishes for a successful and stress free procedure all around. (And stern talkings to the universe about its foot fetishy behavior toward both of you.)

Uh, yeah. I'd guess the 11th and 12th will be long days. But I'm sure the drugs and the ice will help lots, too! Good luck!

Don't forget to breathe and take the time you need for you, too. Relapsing now would be bad.
