New Car (exterior) New Car (exterior)

My new car! I had to stand on the curb to take this, as you can probably tell from the visual angle. In the gallery you can also see the Cyclops dashboard.

...name is?

probably haven't had a chance to figure that out yet, but

*HUGS* on the new vehicle.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:08 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I have no idea yet. I'm resisting the temptation to name her Moose just because I'm so used to a smaller car. Or Cyclops for the dash!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:07 pm (UTC)
Pretty!

What's it's name?
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:09 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I don't know yet. Hopefully not Cyclops. :-)
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:14 pm (UTC)
It's adorable! :)

I actually kind of like the dashboard, believe it or not.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:22 pm (UTC)
I do too. It's alien-looking, but I definitely like it. I've recently seen some dash designs I truly hate. This one wins major points by being mostly blue and by having all its pieces visible through/around the wheel. :)
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:14 pm (UTC)
The dash looks like it should be on a spaceship!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:23 pm (UTC)
That fits with the way I drive. Warp speed, Mr. Sulu!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:33 pm (UTC)
Congratulations! Patrick wants me to think about getting a hybrid for commuting purposes. I'll have to go back and re-read some of your posts.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 07:46 pm (UTC)
Now you don't have to go back! :-)

Prius: peppy, mid-size. Never say a word against one in front of my friendslist. Good storage capacity. Electric engine is primary, gas secondary; Honda does it the other way round.

Insight: incredible gas mileage, two seats, no trunk, discontinued, hard to find.

Civic: Looks like a normal car. Good rearward and rear-side visibility. Can't fold down the back seats to haul stuff because the batteries are in the way. Used 2005 has dangerously wimpy acceleration. (One friend claims her 2003 is MUCH better.) Completely redesigned in 2006; I didn't evaluate those.

I also haven't looked at the Camry, Accord, or whoever's done an SUV.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 08:13 pm (UTC)
Please not Cyclops.

How about Betty? Betty's a good old-fashioned, reliable kind-of name. Like Honda, even.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 08:21 pm (UTC)
If I'm not careful it'll morph into Bertha, for size. I think its invisibility might factor in, too. Was there ever a short name for the Romulan cloaking device?
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 08:35 pm (UTC)
That's it! B.A.B.'s

Only we'll all know it's Big *** Bertha!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 09:49 pm (UTC)
"Babs"! :-)
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 08:22 pm (UTC)
Yay for hybrids!! She's a beauty! I, like the others, look forward to hearing what you decide for a name. :)
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 09:48 pm (UTC)
She's not a hybrid, sadly. A new hybrid was way out of my price range. But any car that gets 40MPG on the highway is okay with me! And I kind of like the flying saucer styling on the dash. :-)
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 10:45 pm (UTC)
Yay! My little '95 Geo Metro still gets between 43-45 mpg on the freeway. I have the sedan with the slightly beefier engine -- they say the little eggshell models from those years get up to 50 mpg.

Then again, it also has 143,000 miles on it. So I'm keeping my eye on those Civics, let me tell you.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 11:04 pm (UTC)
That's excellent mileage! Thumbs up for the Geo Metro! ...is that a turtle made from frosting? :-)
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 11:12 pm (UTC)
Why, yes it is!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 11:15 pm (UTC)
It's adorable!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 11:20 pm (UTC)
Aren't they, though? I blame [livejournal.com profile] simplykimberly for her mad skillz on my unbirthday cake!
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 01:10 am (UTC)
40mpg is excellent. And the dash is indeed stylin'.
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 01:24 am (UTC)
Thanks! I could get used to this quickly... I hope. :-)
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 08:50 pm (UTC)
Congratulations! Now I'm all jealous. But that's not your fault. :)
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 09:49 pm (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah, I'm all jazzed -- spent the morning commute playing with all the buttons. I'm sure I'll be back to normal soon. Sure. Really I will.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 09:58 pm (UTC)
Ooo! Pretty, and shiny-new!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 10:03 pm (UTC)
And it has lots of cool buttons and knobs and things! Now I know why people get power windows. In a car this freakin' big, you can't reach the other door.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 10:03 pm (UTC)
OMG. 'Mine!'
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 11:00 pm (UTC)
hee! :-)

I am dorky enough to consider naming the car Satyagraha, in honor of the day I bought it (100th anniversary).
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 05:04 am (UTC)
Not that dorky, me; I had to look it up and read a bit when time permitted. Thanks for the link.

Question though, what would its nickname then be? I'm terribly unimaginative, I know, but my most recent vehicles were Prissy and Noosy. The first of course is Priscilla, named after a sister-in-law's Tarantula (don't ask, it's embarassing); the second is "New Priscilla," because I was tired that day, and it bloody well stuck.

So. "Sadie?"
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 05:20 am (UTC)
I do know a friend of mine called his Prius "Priuscilla". Me, I'd have a raunchier name from classical roots but then my friends list would lynch me.

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 05:27 am (UTC)
I love it!

Pism for short? or Spism?

I don't think anyone would lynch you, and it would be obscure enough not to be found on a DMV search if you went for personalized plates!
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 11:44 pm (UTC)
I love the dashboard arrangement. Too many vehicles lately have made the top of the speedometer hard to see through the top of the steering wheel, and the Civic's is almost like a heads-up display.
Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 11:50 pm (UTC)
It's amazing how stoooopid many dashboard displays are for a shorter driver. I am of average height for an American woman, and I'm too short for many dash designs. Says a heck of a lot, that does.
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 12:53 am (UTC)
ooh pretty!! shiny!! *squeeee*

congrats on the new wheels. looking forward to hearing all about you getting to know your new, yet-to-be-named four-wheeled companion.

what's to become of your other, banged-up four-wheeled companion? will she get a proper sendoff?
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 01:23 am (UTC)
Thanks! :-) My fallen soldier/bodyguard will get a proper twenty-one-gun salute as she heads off to (I presume) a great vast wasteland of parts cars. As I have no cannon, though, I will instead say "boom" a lot.
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 06:53 pm (UTC)
Yeah. It's really not all that big. Trust me. I'm sure you'll love the Civic. I sure miss my two. Especially that last one which got traded for the company boat.
Wednesday, September 13th, 2006 11:00 pm (UTC)
Hi Rosemary! Yeah, I bet I will come to love it. I know it will be reliable, and David said you two had had excellent experiences with them.
