I'll get on a transatlantic plane without carry-on luggage when they pry it from my cold dead hands.

(Or when they pay me the full replacement price of my checked luggage when I board. On the unlikely chance I ever see it again, and on time too, I'll gladly refund the money... minus a modest handling charge. AND they must have at least three decent full-length novels in the passenger cabin for me, as that's how many I'll need.)

Hmmmmmm. Amtrak at Christmas time to the East Coast is sounding better and better even though its a combined 6 extra days out and back if I go by rail.

and Ya they can have my MacBook Pro and iPod when they pry them from my cold dead hands cause I am not getting on a 5 hour flight without entertainment plus like I would trust the "ramp apes" with those things.

At least the US flights, so far, are not as severely restricted as the UK flights. I admit I sure don't want to check a laptop.

I know but knowing this administration I could see it coming.

Or any other administration too. Heck, I've known both Lefties and Righties to be a bit insane in the cause of saaaaaaaaafety (or "the chillllllllldren"). The US is fond of safety over freedom. WAY fond.

Make sure you take the southern route -- the northern one can get pretty dicey come snow-time. For people with Buns of Titanium, Greyhound can also work. Just because I Gotta Look Stuff Up, with 7 days advance purchase you could make the round-trip in just over 3 days each way for $298 round-trip. On Amtrak you could do it for in about 3-1/2 days each way for $398 round-trip (hundreds more if you want a sleeping cabin instead of coach). And BTW, Amtrak (passenger) trains are almost always late -- cargo trains take precedence.

Took me 24h to get from Boston to Cleveland once. Amtrak. (Thanksgiving; planes were sold out.) Never ever again... well, okay, maybe again if they will otherwise take my laptop away. ;-)
