Duchess is in

I have no idea why my vet said to confine her to a room without a litterbox. She is way past the stage of caring whether there's a litterbox around. I found her sitting in her own puddle. My poor girl. She is usually so clean and tidy. She's not even trying now.

But she's in at the vet's as of eight this morning, where they'll watch her for a sample. Fingers crossed.

Oh your poor baby. Good luck.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I hope she feels better quickly -- she must be miserable. Hey, who's the kitty in your icon? He's a cutie!

Oh, CJ! Poor little Duchess! I'm so glad they finally took her -- maybe now they'll be able to find the problem and treat her.

After this is over, consider changing to a vet who seems more concerned about their patients than this one does. Call a few in the area and tell them you're considering using them, and then describe the problem Duchess had up to this point and ask how they would treat it. When you find one that sounds more pro-active and more sympathetic and concerned, switch.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Right! I think these folks are perfectly competent, but I do need a place that's open more of the time (skip a day because they close early? um, this cat's in pain) and it would be convenient if the place were a lot closer to my house.

[identity profile] valcat.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I am sorry Duchess is so sick that she had to go to the vet. I do not like going to the vet. Not at all. They force me to get into a little box, and then they put that in a big metal box that shakes and jerks, and I do not like that one bit. Then we get to the really scary place, where they do unspeakable things. They're so undignified I cannot even tell you what they are. At least my humans bring me home again when it is over. I feel very sorry for Duchess having to stay in that terrible place. I hope she gets well very soon so she can come home.

Is my friend Jackie glad for Duchess to be out of the house? I wouldn't mind if Friday left for awhile. It would be nice to not have to share my food or my human's attention, like it used to be. I would not want him to go away forever, though. He's my little brother and even though he is often a pain, it's nice to snuggle up with him in the soft chair on chilly winter days.

If I were there I would give Duchess a nice gentle bath and purr softly to her. That would make her feel better. I cannot get there because I do not want to go in the small cramped box or the big jerky box but you can tell her I am sending her thoughts of purrs and and baths.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Duchess does not like the little box or the big box either. But as soon as I got to the vet (and they weren't quite open yet) I made the big box be quiet and still, and Duchess calmed down and started to purr.

I think Jackie doesn't much care whether Duchess is out of the house. Little Girl seems confused though, and is being extra affectionate. Maybe she thinks we banished Duchess for insufficient affection.

Thank you. I wish I could give you scritches in return -- your favorite kind, whatever that would be.

Awww, poor kitty. I hope they can help her this time.

Continuing with the black-and-white-kitty-icon tradition that seems to have started in these comments...

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I hope so too.

Hee! Cute! Is this one yours? Duchess is gray-and-white, so all these icons look remarkably apropos. :-)

Poor kitty.

We just went through that ourselves with the addition that our guy was a little blocked up. The emergency vet removed the blockage, gave us clavamox for the infection, and a little valium to help him deal with the discomfort. They thought he was having bladder spasms, too. Valium is supposed to be good for that. Once he started feeling better, he'd just let loose a full bladder whenever and where ever for the first couple of days. No fun, indeed, and also very not like him.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yow! I'm glad he's over that part. He must have been all discombobulated. Duchess has been a bit upset because she *knows* where urine is supposed to go, yet she can't live by the rules any more.

Thanks! I wish I could tell her that this vet stay means BETTER SOON.

[identity profile] wooddragon.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor Duchess! They better dang well have a sample by now...

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding! They said they'd call me when I could come pick her up, but since I already told them my (er, Rob's actually) schedule, they may wait.

[identity profile] dawnd.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor baby. I hope it's just an easily-treated UTI.

I hope so too! Thanks!

i hope she turns out ok. max does, too.

Oh, poor Duchess.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel so bad for her! I hope she'll be better soon. If it is just a "plain old" UTI, antibiotics should give her relief quickly.

[identity profile] sharya.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her! Poor poor kitty :(

In the event that they can't get a sample, our vet had suggested that we pick up some "sterile little" for Buzzer before she died. The sterile litter comprises of sterile little beads that don't actually absorb the urine, and allows a sterile sample to be collected. It's a pain in the ass though, and we elected to just leave her at the vet. :/

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
At least there is a way, if she doesn't give them a sample soon. May I say that your icon is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE? :-)

[identity profile] airporter.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
May she be well and her normal kitty self soon.

Awwwwww! I sure hope she gets properly diagnosed finally and can start to get better! I'd love to get to pet a relatively healthy (or at least healthier) kitty when I visit!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding! They don't have a sample YET, and if they can't get one when they try at 430 I'm going to Mid-Peninsula Emergency and probably never darkening this vet's door again.

[identity profile] hnybny.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope Duchess gets great care at her vet and all this sorts itself out quickly. Stay on them and if you think the vets are slacking, kick them in the ass. G and I are this close to a kicking with our vet and tomorrow will decided whether he ever sees them again.

Good luck!!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's nearly 4:30 and they have yet to get a sample. They won't begin treatment of any kind without a urine sample. They're going to try again at 4:30.

Right now I'm hoping they don't get a sample. I will then take her home and bring her to Mid-Peninsula Emergency, where someone competent will deal with her. They may catheterize if they need a sample so badly. They may start treatment without. Either way she will get help. If on the other hand this vet DOES get a sample in a minute or two, I will feel honor-bound to continue her treatment there, because that'll be faster for the cat than starting over somewhere else.

But I'm definitely not ever taking a cat to this vet again.

What's up with your vet? Do you need to open a can of whup-ass?
