Signed forms, have temporary desk (cubes being built out now for tomorrow), received card key, attended first meeting, am now browsing lots of overview material on the design and implementation of the product. Previous entry is public now.

I'm actually getting excited. Usually I'm just feeling "OK, here's a job, hop to it." Now I'm feeling "Hey, cool and fun!" It's eerie. I hope it lasts. :-)

Wooooo!
Yay you!
Monday, June 19th, 2006 06:11 pm (UTC)
Fingers, toes, eyes; all crossed for you. Have fun.

YAYAY! Go You!
Monday, June 19th, 2006 06:17 pm (UTC)
Well done, you!

I treasure those moments when life is again full of crunchy new possibilities. May you bypass the cruft and grunge to hit the Nirvana of flow. :-)

So where is this place? Relatively close to home, I hope?
Wednesday, June 21st, 2006 01:02 am (UTC)
Yeah, a bit over fifteen minutes from home. Farther than my old job, but not at all a bad commute!
Monday, June 19th, 2006 06:49 pm (UTC)
And the real name of the company is?

Monday, June 19th, 2006 07:41 pm (UTC)
Congratulations!
Monday, June 19th, 2006 07:42 pm (UTC)
Hooray! Enjoy that golden feeling. :-)
Monday, June 19th, 2006 07:51 pm (UTC)
Woohoo! Enjoy, enjoy!
Monday, June 19th, 2006 10:25 pm (UTC)
Yay! I hope this one brings you fulfillment, fat finances, fun, and a fine future!
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 03:46 am (UTC)
wheeeeeeeee!
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 02:35 pm (UTC)
I'm certain you recall the story of the freak who showed up at Spice on a Monday morning about 10am, saw that his workstation was set up and his cube was supplied, and immediately resigned. "You all are too organized to be a real start-up," or similar nonsense. I'd make fun of him being named for a plant, but that's just crass. Deserved, maybe, but crass.

It's good to see that you are working for a real start-up!
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 03:16 pm (UTC)
Oh yes, I remember him! We also wanted him to do things like work on a team, and he simply wasn't prepared to cope. Poor guy. He'd have hated it if he stayed, so I guess it's best for all that he walked out on the spot.

I just got email from our applicant tracking system saying that you've withdrawn your application. I guess I won't be able to spend those mega bonus bucks.

Congratulations on the new job. When are you going to be able to tell us who they are and what they do?
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 08:36 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I had to notify Google yesterday afternoon because I'd signed here. *sigh* I feel bad about that; it's the second time I've been too quick for Google to catch, and I DO think Google would be a great place for me to work.

Apologies about those big bonus bucks! I guess you'll have to get those by writing Google Flight Track or something. ;-)

I can tell you either who they are or what they do, I suppose. I don't know what's public and what's not! I'll shoot you an e-mail.
Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 06:30 pm (UTC)
Oh, so the contact I gave you at Google didn't work out?

Does company M need any Q/A people in NY or NJ? If so, let me know.
Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 06:41 pm (UTC)
I had already submitted my resume to Google, but by the time they got a phone interview arranged, I had an offer from Company M saying "We want an answer within 24 hours". Timing!!

We don't, but we badly need a Q/A person in Sunnyvale. We're looking for a contractor but would be happy to hire full time if things work out. You wouldn't feel like taking a California vacation from, say, July 1 to end of September, would you? :-)

Congrats. I heard a bit about the whole process from [livejournal.com profile] rfrench who basically stood us up for lunch because he was on the cell phone with some person from CA about some decision she had to make.

As I told Rob, I've got a little experience in some of the stuff you may be doing, so feel free to call/write & pick my brain or even just ask stupid stuff.
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 10:03 pm (UTC)
*chuckles* Yeah, I felt bad about the timing of that call! Rob clearly bailed out of the lunch line to go radiate calm at me over the phone.

I would love to ask a lot of stupid stuff. I am completely starting from scratch on this one! Can I take you to lunch and ask questions so continuously that you can hardly eat? :-)
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 10:38 pm (UTC)
Sure. This week doesn't work for me -- we're flying up to Ashland by way of Chico on Thurs, coming back Fri afternoon, but next week is open on Mon & Weds, and Tues would work as well except for I might not have a car.
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 10:46 pm (UTC)
I'll take next Monday for fifty, Bob. Thanks! What's your favorite south-bay-ish place to have lunch? :)
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 11:26 pm (UTC)
I'm pretty flexible. Call me Monday morning (either cell or home) and we can figure out what works.
Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 07:20 pm (UTC)
Congratulations! I hope that "new" job feeling lasts a very long time!

Thanks! It's really nifty so far!
