I found out more about the new, inconvenient LJ links.

Your journal is now a part of a database cluster. There is how ALL links will be at LJ in the future, slowly we are converting over ALL LJs to this new DB method, this will make the site faster, better, stronger...

The DB cluster requires more information in order to work, thus the longer URL.

There is no way to shorten it, sorry.

I replied asking about the line wrap and the stupid 3D s. We'll see.

Well heck. I hope they'll at least fix the linewrap and 3D problems. (Good to see you back, BTW.)

I hope so too, but I'm not holding my breath, given the tone of the response I quoted. The dude obviously didn't bother to read WHY it was annoying and what could be done to make it less so - just said it couldn't be made shorter.

(Thanks!)

I'm not having this problem. Perhaps you should tell LJ never to send you HTML mail? Then you should get plain ol' long text. I think....

Not too many people are, yet. And if your mailer is MIME-aware, you may never notice.

Unfortunately, no such luck with telling them not to send HTML -- if you tell LJ you can't handle HTML, it gives you MIME. That causes both the line wrap (with extra equals sign) and the two extraneous 3D s (each appended to legitimate equals signs). Stupid @#$ing assumptions people make. MIME should be taken out and shot. Not because it is bad, but because people can't be bothered to support anything but.
