I did it. I finally went out and got in a pool.

I take back about 45% of the things I said about cold. A properly heated pool, once I get in it, really isn't too bad. If I were in shape enough to get warmed up it would be downright comfortable. The pool also looks nifty sitting there steaming in the early morning light! (Getting OUT of the pool, on the other hand... outdoors... brr.)

I am very out of shape. Two years without any cardio exercise whatsoever, plus I've never done much with my upper body in my life. (Except when I was in the Army. I could knock out those pushups then.) This is humbling.

I was very thankful that it wasn't crowded. I had a lane to myself. There are benefits to going to an outdoor pool shortly after the rainstorm stops! (Or is it that it's January?) Maybe by summer, when it'll be crowded again, I'll be able to swim at a decent pace.

I have water in both my ears. Despite arms like noodles, I would have continued swimming longer this morning except that both ears were hurting. I need help on this!

And now for the bad news. My feet are KILLING ME. It seems there's a certain amount of standing up that happens. There's probably more for me than for most, because I haven't been swimming in twenty years. In between laps, arms hooked over the edge, panting -- those feet are down and they've got the toes bent back (the worst). Rats! I can NOT be doing that! Grrr! I sure hope this isn't yet one more form of exercise that I shouldn't do because of my feet. That would leave one last fitness option: just generally being tense.

I've found a wonderful image to use as a swim icon. I've written for permission. It is a CAT! Swimming! Is that me or what? :-) Check out this page. I hope I'm allowed to use it.

Do you ever come by Generic Squares? I'm substituting there tonight, and I could bring them. Or you could drop by my house some time (but tonight I won't be there)!

No, don't even know them. Found on the web easily enough.
I'm only a plus dancer. Would consider coming by, but it
won't work for tonight.

Tomorrow afternoon and evening I'll be in
Menlo Park/PA/MtnView for dentist-appt/errands/El-Camino- Reelers -- I could hopefully/possibly fit
in stopping by your place then. Would that work?

Oh, and I hope being involved as a caller is not only
still fun but very fun.

thanks!

Hi! "Tomorrow" (now today) evening would work. I hope this message reaches you in time to be useful.

I get home any time between 730 and 9, but if you're coming by it can be 730. :-) (Actually, I suppose that puts me after Reelers either way, huh? If you want to stop by BEFORE Reelers, maybe come by my work. 777 East Middlefield (at the corner of Bernardo). If you're coming to my work, let me know, so I can go grab the Birks at lunch and bring them in.)

ack -- I am sorry, I am about to walk out the door and can't seem to figure out (at least not fast enough) how/when to do this. I didn't save your home address (or I could probly stop by AFTER ECR) -- and I will be out and about all day where email has no meaning. Um, I considered sending my cell phone # (which is almost never used) but this seems iffy since I may or may not even be able to answer it...... I usually have some time on MOST Wednesdays in PA/Mtn View area in the late afternoon (and sometimes early afternoon) -- and often also on Saturdays (in late morning or afternoon -- after walking w/frontrunners)..... Many thanks for trying, can we try NEXT Wednesday?

RUNNING OUT DOOR....

[LJ won't show me the screened comment I'm replying to and I tried posting this from email and LJ complains -- so I'm making it a reply to MY comment, which I think should work anyhow.]
[Bear in mind that I am NOT a "real" LJ user....I'm just wandering in the neighborhood....]

Okay, um, now looking at next Wednesday (carefully!) I could come to your work between 3:30 and 5:00 (which is after dental work is done). That should work. (I assume I go to that address, go in and say "I am looking for CJ".)

I'd like it better if I were not interrupting you at work, but next Wed I am going to an evening meeting (rather then ECR) and usually don't leave (this meeting) till 10 PM, and that seems unreasonably late.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is still also an option, if you are likely to be home. (If so, please send a phone number so I can check if it is a good time to show up.) I'm going to BLFR and then various errands. I plan to go to the DeAnza flea market (at maybe 1 or 2 pm?) and need to be done by 4pm (when I pick up an out-of-town-friend for dinner, very near DeAnza)

I also have the flippers in the car, although I presume they are way wrong size -- just in case. Any interest in mask?

Bleah, you're right, LJ is annoying about screened comments. I wish it would let a) you see it because you are the one it was written TO, b) you reply to it as long as you have the proper link. Oh well.

I like Wednesday between 330 and 5. If you pop in and say "looking for CJ" they'll know exactly who you mean. The place is small.

I could at least *try* the flippers. They probably won't fit, but... are you sure you're not interested in keeping them? If you're not, I'm happy to at least try them on. And if you don't have any use for the mask, sure, I'd be happy to try that on too! Thank you so much for all this.

Okay, next Wednesday it is.
The flippers and goggles would be a loan. I bought them before I went to the Bahamas. (Doesn't that sound so much more exciting than going to "an island off of Florida".) I do want to keep them, but I haven't used them in ?8 years? or so. They may be about to fall apart for all I know. Loaning them to you for a year would be excellent. Anyway, I'll bring them for you to play with, and see if they are any use. Just give 'em back to me rather than Goodwill.
