The seal-things-up people came by and did an appallingly large number of things to the place. (Appalling just because there was so much that needed doing, that is.) A big hole in the linoleum of the "den" got some stainless steel grate over it. Lots of accesses to the crawlspace got better grates, too. Lots of holes in the drywall of the garage, and places where the drywall failed properly to meet the underside of the roof, got some weird foam sprayed into them. It will cure in 24 hours or so and then we can slice it flush with the wall. This stuff vaguely reminds me of shaving cream: big expanding foamy stuff. Kim said it looked like something you'd squirt into someone's boobs to make them bigger. I had to admit hers was a much more picturesque description!

While she was in the garage pointing this stuff out to me, we heard a sound sort of like cardboard shifting on the opposite side of the garage. Of course it was probably a rat. Those boxes haven't been moved since the Renaissance; they're probably pretty well settled by now. Kim departed the area with impressive alacrity. I went over and kicked the boxes to see if I could scare the rat enough that he'd run out the door. (No luck.) (Kim was mortified.)

I gotta get the casualty numbers from the pest control guys.

so, what's the body count? do you feel like a sadistic dictator, wiping out the population of her mutinious rebel village?

i hafta tell ya', i'm impressed at your matter-of-fact-ness in handling this rat thing. i freaked out over bugs in my apartment ... i don't know what i'd do with creatures like you've got! *shudder*

ps...glad you got the comment thing figured out!

I don't have any numbers. The guys are coming every other day to empty and reset the traps. The count has gotta be climbing fast.

It's easy to be matter-of-fact when I've never seen the creatures. I'm just sorry it got this bad before we knew about it and did something! :-/ Oh, and I've dealt with bad... I mean really BAD... bug problems, so I know how you feel. Thank goodness I don't live there any more. I'm not so young and strong of heart as I used to be!
