Flu, food, death

Well, there's a heck of a subject line. It's just a hodgepodge update.

1. Flu shots today. Painless going in, very achy now. Not my usual pattern.

2. If beef burgundy and pot roast had a child, they would taste like my dinner. Except mine's more dry and could use a little salt. (Next time a little more of all the seasoning stuff.) I was ravenous when I walked in the door, so there was no question of adding peppers or anything. I made some rice with the broth and started chowing down. Again the kitties displayed a comical level of interest.

3. My uncle's very likely not going to make it. He had a heart attack yesterday while driving; his vehicle was broadsided probably not long afterwards. He's not breathing on his own and as of this morning there's no normal brain activity. The family will probably decide to do the merciful thing some time in the next day or so. My heart goes out to his sons and daughters. Me, I wasn't all that close to him, but they've always been an incredibly tight-knit family. Most still live within blocks of each other. And they're the ones who'll have to make that heartrending decision.

Thanks. Any good thoughts, send 'em to Lorain for the cousins.

Prayers and good thoughts on the way.

Thank you. Mention the cousins and my mom rather than me -- I don't need it, but they could use it.

hooray for a successful dinner. odd, but my kitties don't seem too interested in the stuff i crock-pot. ;-)

**hugs** to you and your family. what a horrible thing to have happen to anyone at any time, but it's especially brutal to happen now, so near the holidays. :(

Thanks! For once I have finally made something cheaper than -- no, almost as cheaply as I could buy it. The meat was roughly $5, the wine was maybe $6 and I didn't use it all, the rice and herbs were negligible, and I'm going to get two meals out of it.

Thanks also for the hugs. My mom is frazzled but accepting; the hardest thing for her is knowing how much she's "an outsider" because she lives far from the cousins. The cousins will be torn apart for a bit. They'll rally, but this season will be hard. I think they're going to pull the plug tomorrow and that will mean he shares the date with my (and their) grandma, who passed away 12/15/2002.

1. I assume it's your arm that's aching.

2. If your cats are interested when you cook, it's because these are new smells. *grin*

3. Oh, damn. We went through this with my aunt in May. You and yours have my sympathies; it's one of the toughest choices even when the person's wishes are already known.

*hugs*

1. Yes, upper arm. Any time I try to move it. Ignorable, but a new experience for me!

2. New FOOD and MEAT smells. MMMMMMMM! 8-)

3. Thanks. My mom and my cousins are in the worst of it. (And yes, fortunately, his wishes are known.) Blegh.

*hugs* I've been through the death of two parents -- never easy to have someone at all close to you pass away.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-12-15 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. No, it isn't -- another reminder of our mortality. My mom is now the eldest in our local family tree.

Bummer, great start, *hugs*

Not quite as heck of a subject line back atcha, but there you go.

No biggie, thanks, thanks.

They get more boring with each exchange, I suppose!

That's good, you're welcome, you're welcome

[identity profile] rampling.livejournal.com 2005-12-15 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, definitely more boring. *yawn*

And they're the ones who'll have to make that heartrending decision.

And it's never an easy one. Positive thoughts in you and yours' direction.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-12-15 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. At least it's clear in the doctors' minds (including his physician daughter and his nurse daughter) that there isn't any real hope; also, he had long since made his wishes known for a case like this. Thank goodness. Those things make such a decision at least a little less heartbreaking.

Many hugs... I am sorry about your uncle.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-12-15 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I feel for my mom and for his kids. :-(

Sorry to hear about your uncle. Good thoughts to your mom and cousins. That's very hard.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-12-15 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Yeah, it's rough. :-(
