Crock Pot Recipe Tryouts: Third in a series! [livejournal.com profile] jcgbigler's Generic All-Purpose Recipe with [livejournal.com profile] aleeceh's Follow Your Nose Method. Stay tuned for zany kitchen antics! How can CJ goof up THIS one?

I threw in:
one (1) package of stew beef chunks, thawed*
one (1) small pile of chopped up bits of onion
one (1) small handful of ground black pepper (maybe a bit over a teaspoon?)
one (1) largish handful of some green herby thing that smelled good (okay, it was thyme)
two (2) shakes of the garlic powder shaker
enough (about 1/3 bottle) red wine (Yellow Tail Shiraz/Grenache blend*) to almost cover the meat chunks

I forgot to throw in:
The chopped up red and green bell peppers (oops)

I opted not to add:
another leafy thing (sage??) that just didn't smell very good to me right then

I turned it on low and wandered off. I'll see how it is this evening! (I might sniff it and add the peppers for a bit. Or I might decide it smells nothing like what peppers should go with, and keep those for later.)

* How MUCH beef? Oh come on, you think I know that? I'm lucky I took the plastic wrap off it.
* Hey, now I know what wine to pair with dinner. BONUS!

So are those who will eat it, I'd imagine. ;-)

Hey, now I know what wine to pair with dinner. BONUS!

I'll never understand that, but that's just because I'm very finicky and like very few kinds of wine anyway.

Well, yes, that would be me and me.

I'll never understand the wine pairing thing either, but that's because I am not devoting the time and money to finding out. I put whites with chicken and reds with beef or lamb and that's basically it. But I can cheat this time 'cause I know what went into the pot (and I still have 2/3 of the bottle). I love that. :-)

Oooo! Ooooooo! i know! i know! lemme answer! *jumps up and down waving arms*

*stop, noticing that CJ is glaring at me*

oh. uhm. hrm. This is one of those questions-that-really-aren't-questions, isn't it?

(all kidding aside, it sounds really good - hope it comes out for you!)

Aw, you didn't answer! I don't know the answer yet, so I gotta ask my friends.

that's because i was being a smartass. i actually think it'll come out fine. it's simple. it's got stuff that's known to work well together. and the stuff you left out isn't critical.

what would you serve this with? baked potatoes? noodles? nothing but a big ol' glass o'wine?

I made rice with the broth. If I'd had any energy left I would have added veggies -- a salad would have been perfect but I don't have the fixins in the house -- but I was way too wiped. Wednesdays I don't get lunch, see, so by dinnertime everything depends on how well I managed to snack. Today I snacked VERY poorly.

Did have the glass of wine though! 8-)

Luck favours the prepared.

Luck also favors persons with clue. ;-)

Obviously you have at least one. After all, you bought a crock pot, which makes it pretty easy to put out nourishing, tasty meals like yours tonight.

Now, as to how much beef, you really should know just what you're getting. *grin*

Some day I'll learn that lesson! :-)

I think this one'll be tasty. You might want to add some salt near the end. Let us know how it turns out!

It was pretty tasty indeed! Salt would've helped, but it had hunger all over it so it tasted just fine to me. :)
