One day and counting

Less than 24 hours to the office move. Tuesday everyone was fine. Wednesday the place started to get a little crazy, with people giving away things they didn't want, throwing away things no one took, etc. The break room looked like a remainder book sale at Weird Stuff Warehouse. And today...! Today it looks like a bomb went off in here. Cables are everywhere. Boxes (full, empty, folded, and all torn up) are everywhere. Walking down the hall, you're likely to see a pile of trash next to a neat row of thirty computers next to a couple sheets of paper randomly abandoned next to a guy you've never seen before with a handcart. The only thing NOT happening -- yet -- is they're not taking the walls down. Last time, they did that, too. (Including full-height interior plaster walls.)

Some of us are trying to get some work done, but one bank of servers was decommissioned at noon, another bank is going down at noon tomorrow, and we have to be out by three. The engineer I most need to talk to, work with, get technical help from, was missing all afternoon and I later learned he was hidden in some lab somewhere with the QA team having a cable-coiling party.

I am so not packed. But I think it's time to give up on any actual work, and just pack. Except now it's time to go get some food so I can call a square dance this evening.

Office moves aren't easy especially with work in progress.

I wonder if there was any interesting stuff to scavenge?

I replaced my ClearCase manuals with the correct ones for my operating system. Lots of people got keyboards and mice -- crummy ones, to be sure, but functional. And somebody got a pad of paper, pen, and breakfast from my office :-(.
