I picked up my car from the repair shop today! There were approximately one point three million things wrong with it. The real kicker, though, was that the brakes were grinding. Not squealing. Grinding. They never did squeal, as it turns out. I refused to drive it after the grinding started, even though it hadn't lost brake power and probably wasn't likely to for a little while yet. I could have postponed everything else, even the timing belt when I KNOW BETTER, but that noise made me get off my butt and deal with it all.
So I got a new timing belt (I insisted, purely because it was old, and ever since Mary Ellen's engine ate itself one day I've been anal about timing belts), all the rest of the belts replaced while they were at it (would have been done at my 120K service anyhow, as they were showing wear), a couple of seals replaced, my broken window winder replaced, my broken rear view mirror (wouldn't stay in "night mode") replaced, my broken seat belt (still safe but wouldn't hold the buckle up where you could reach it) replaced, and quite a few other things. An oil change, while they were in there. New headlight for the one that was dim. Some broken plastic pieces that rattled... Anyhow, WHAT a WIN. It looks beautiful. They even washed it. I bet they do that every time somebody spends that much money. :-)
I was uncharacteristically clowning around with the service rep who did the paperwork when I picked it up. Made comments about "you washed it! That was affecting my mileage" and stuff like that. Nothing clever or original, just clowny, and I was surprised at myself. I don't usually act like that.
Now the only thing left to do on it is the headliner (the vinyl ceiling). The vinyl's falling down.
Still. I really like my car now. :-) Funny how having all the irritating little things fixed can make a real difference in how I feel about it.
