A low-key and pleasant social event was exactly what I needed after (what to me had been) that big emotional hurdle in the morning.
simplykimberly's tarte tatin is amazing. SWOON. My goodness, I have to learn to make that stuff. If I can do half as well I'll be blissed out every time I eat it.
I need to work on my mental mapping between LJ-names and names!
We had some delicious chocolate chip cookies and Rob instantly lied through his teeth: "They're almost as good as the ones you make," he told me. HA! They were fantastic, and let me tell you, in the kitchen I simply do not do fantastic. But I made sure he knew how pleased I was with his compliment. :-)
When we got home we dug through some of the IRS stuff. They want the 1098, checks, receipts, amortization schedules, "land and mortgage contracts" (huh?), and "copies of statements from financial institutions, investment brokerages or persons to verify your total investment interest deduction" (I have no investment interest deduction). I'm starting to wonder if they think this house is an investment property rather than a primary residence. Together Rob and I found everything I need to photocopy and send off, and on Tuesday when government offices are open I'll phone the contact person about that "investment interest deduction" bit.
After we'd found everything I made a commitment to file EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF PAPER ON MY DESK by the time Rob gets back from his flight lessons today. I better hop to it.
