Here's a swap meet I'd love to go to. Hobby swap! Bring your old hobbies and go home with secondhand hobbies you get from someone else!

I'll probably never make candles again, so I'd bring my books and molds and paraffin and colors. I'll bring my rollerblades with elbow and knee pads. I'll bring my cake decorating books and my collection of fancy icing tips. I might go home with pliers & dowel & a bunch of thick wire to turn into chain mail, or perhaps a power sander, or a beginner's archery bow and arm guard.

Now if only I didn't suck at hosting stuff. :) I need an accomplice who will do the hard part.

I remember a certain Fondue Fest I helped you to host at your place -- would do that again at the drop of, well, anything! And, per the comments below it could be potluck, childfree, hottub free. As long as it wasn't cheese-free!

Such a party would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fun!!! I'd so plan to drive up for that!

Excellent! Ah dang, it sounds like I'm going to have to actually DO this one, eh?

(When are you in India?)

Ya gotta watch where you do your musing about ideas like this, or you end up getting bunches of us all excited about it and wanting to help make it happen! You poor thing! ;)

My India trip is roughly Friday Nov. 11th - Monday Dec. 5th. And I wouldn't wanna schedule anything for the weekend before or after, of course. Sat. Oct 15th is also my HS Reunion.

So, pick a day, and I'll help! And I'll bring a non-p'tit hunk of P'tit Basque and....

Just with you and me in the mix, then, we might be looking at December. We're doing a software release end Sep/early Oct -- normally not bad but I'm release meister this time 'round. Late October I'm in New England. November is NaNoWriMo.

Waiting 'til December would be a lot better for me. I've *much* to do 'fore I go away!

P.S. Like my new icon?

Mmmmmmm CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE!

Next awkward little detail: how is it decided, and by whom is it decided, what item(s) go(es) home with whom? Need another post on that, I suspect.

You could pick a few favorite dates, and let people vote via a poll. People self-selected as actually intending to go if they can. Not sure if you're best off announcing it right away, waiting 'til closer to the event. 'Specially 'cause December can get pretty full of events.

You could ask for general input on the idea of how to best match people with hobby stuff, and does it matter how much stuff you brought. Then, if no consensus, Yet Another Poll! ;)

To me the nice thing about polling is that it allows you to "show your work" as you pick an option, which makes it less likely for people to (successfully) whine at you. I'm not the type to put up with whiners of that type anyway, so if you get hit by any of them, send 'em my way! Arrrrr!

P.S. Actually I made two new cheesy icons. Couldn't resist this one either!

Exactly. I'll make a post about that today, I think... once I get my sorry butt in to work. (I'm still at home 'cause 8:30 is the worst time to leave. Eight is fine, nine is fine.)
