If you assume it takes about a second for a crack team of frat boys to flip Smoot end-to-end (and that he stays stiff as a board for a very long time -- perhaps the drinks were really strong), then it will take 176 million years to measure out a light year:

5.56 X (10^15) seconds = 176 189 531 years
