I'm making very good progress. I can now get around better without the crutches than with, although a walker would probably still be better -- safer, at least -- than either. Preparing simple food is easier because my balance has improved enormously: moving a plate from the oven to the counter is no longer a carefully launched near-fall with a sudden countertop grab at the end. I can do stairs upright. I can even wiggle my toes and flex my ankles a little. At this rate by Monday I'll be tap dancing.

I am about to attempt a shower. No getting a drop of water on either foot, no standing up. Ah, the comedic potential!

Re: Showering without getting the feet wet or standing up creates QUITE a visual here! Looking forward to hearing about THAT double-jointed adventure!

That upstairs room has a shower with a low ledge, rather than a high-walled tub, so I just sat on its floor with both feet shoved out the shower door. It was awkard but it worked. :)

JPEGs! ;-)

Of me naked? On the net? I don't THINK so. :-)

Hey, I got the card you and Toni sent! That's so sweet of you -- and the card you chose is incredibly appropriate, too. A turtle with his feet in the air! Thank you.

Thousands of pornsite models can't be wrong!

Proof by majority vote? :-)
Sunday, August 7th, 2005 04:14 pm (UTC)
I admit the recent elections have weakened that argument somewhat :)
Monday, August 8th, 2005 05:04 pm (UTC)
A good point!
Sunday, August 7th, 2005 02:09 pm (UTC)
Hey, I never said you had to post them. ;-)

And you're welcome.
Sunday, August 7th, 2005 04:11 pm (UTC)
Oh! Well, if I don't have to produce proof, then I, um, I took lots of pictures. With my extensible stretchy arms I held the camera outside the shower. Yeah. ;-)

While I was sitting there I did think it would be interesting to try to make a SFW photo (I could hold up a towel, maybe) to add to my foot surgery gallery.

if I don't have to produce proof

Heh. I didn't say that, either, just that you didn't have to post them. E-mail works. You could have gotten [livejournal.com profile] rfrench to hold the camera. ;-)

Seriously, though, a SFW photo would have been interesting to add to the collection.

It'll be a while before I can shower any other way, so yeah, maybe I'll try to create such a photo.

He's just jealous because I have memories of you naked and he doesn't ;-)

*conspiratorial chuckle*

Hot tubbing is a better image than that awkward shower anyway!
Sunday, August 7th, 2005 04:16 pm (UTC)
Gee, I wouldn't know. *sulk*
Monday, August 8th, 2005 05:01 pm (UTC)
Well then come visit some time! :-)
Monday, August 8th, 2005 05:06 pm (UTC)
*grin* Such a visit is in the not-imminently-being-planned phase, but in the highly-desired-to-do-when-time-and-finances-are-available-again phase. :-)
Monday, August 8th, 2005 05:12 pm (UTC)
I understand completely! :-)
Monday, August 8th, 2005 05:02 pm (UTC)
Perhaps you need to visit my hot tub too one fine day! Next time you're in the right hemisphere, I suppose. :)
Monday, August 8th, 2005 06:08 pm (UTC)
That would be an exceptionally fine day indeed :)
Monday, August 8th, 2005 06:37 pm (UTC)
I'd enjoy seeing/meeting you in person again. I'm *still* obscurely annoyed at Google for making what I perceive as a big mistake in not luring you to this geographical area.
Monday, August 8th, 2005 06:43 pm (UTC)
Me too! And seeing you is definitely high on my todo list for when I get back to that part of the world.
Monday, August 8th, 2005 08:31 pm (UTC)
Thank you! I heard about Clare's planned visit -- that sounds WONDERFUL. I hope you both have a great time!
Tuesday, August 9th, 2005 05:36 pm (UTC)
I can hardly wait :))
Sunday, August 7th, 2005 02:21 am (UTC)
Assuming you're not tap dancing on Monday, maybe you could shower sitting on one of those little plastic stepstools you can buy at drugstores.
Sunday, August 7th, 2005 04:27 am (UTC)
I have one of those in the shower now, but today it was better to sit right down on the floor and stick my legs out the door. That way I could elevate them and keep them dry at the same time. I'm sure I'll graduate to the stool in a little while.

Whoa, lady! You're doing great! Thanks for posting the pix of the whole thing. I can't believe the nasties they removed. No wonder you were in such pain! Argghhh!!!

I have numb feet, but it's from neuropathy...feels like somebody pasted cardboard to the bottom of my feet, and sometimes they tingle.

Here's hoping and praying that this surgery did the trick and you'll soon be up and about and dancing on the bar!!! And running again. Yay!!! All my fingers and toesies are crossed in hopes of a cure for ya, sweet lady! Take it slow...pace yourself...one step at a time. Right? Gentle megahugs!!
Sunday, August 7th, 2005 05:44 am (UTC)
Those nasties are probably only a small part of my pain, I hate to say. But yeah, I'm stunned at their size and I do suspect there will be some improvement after I heal up from this surgery!

I am starting to think tingles are a common thing with any kind of nerve damage. I'm getting tingles where I used to have real sensations. I used to get tingles when the neuromas were at their worst. You get tingles with neuropathy. Hmm.

Thank you for your good wishes, and I promise I'll behave and pace myself!
