I was having a small cyst removed from my knee. They hung a drape so I couldn't see it, and I just had a local. The surgeon and I were talking, and all of a sudden I saw smoke rising from my knee. He told me that he had cauterized the area to stop bleeding, so he could make sure he got all of the cyst.
This was the same surgeon (plastic surgeon, even) that removed the cyst from Dan's arm.
Oh wow. I thought they wouldn't cauterize anything that had to heal back together, like the sides of an incision. Guess that was wrong! It seems likely that's what they did, then.
