Gene Ray is stupid. So stupid he doesn't even know he is stupid and that his basic assumption is flawed because not everyone becomes a parent and grandparent. Sure, there are many time zones around the world at the same time, some parts in sun, some in darkness. That basic fact has nothing to do with his flawed assumption.
