Dizzy. DIZZY.

I forget the name of this medication ([livejournal.com profile] rfrench...?) but it's got warnings about dizziness.

I just took it for the first time, with lunch because "with food" was recommended.

THEY ARE NOT KIDDING AROUND ABOUT DIZZINESS. Woooooo. I'm really not quite sure which way is up right now. Well, I can sort of deduce it by which way the edges of tbe windows line up on my monitor, but thinking too hard about that makes my stomach begin sending Locate-A-Bucket warnings. Then I keep very very still for a few moments and the warnings fade. Turning my head to the left or right gives a spate of urgent Locate-A-Bucket warnings. Tilting my head left or right gives just a couple. Closing my eyes is awful.

Whee. And this is time-release for eight to twelve hours. I am gonna have a very interesting commute home. It might very well involve someone else as driver!

yikes! *gentle hugs*

i hope it goes away quickly and/or you find a safe way home.

drug side effects need to be more interesting. like, say, developing a third eye, or randoming bursting into showtunes in elevators.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I flattened myself on the floor of my cube just after posting that, and was back in my chair around five or so. Am now almost back to normal. Gah. I am NOT taking that med again! NO!

I would be insanely tempted to try one that created a third eye though. Or one that turned my hair fuchsia. Or one that made me float a couple of inches off the ground for the next six hours.

[identity profile] rampling.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Aieee! That sounds dramatic! I sure hope it mellows out for you soon. And, yeah, if not, it sounds rather like you'd be much safer passenging home rather than driving.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It eventually did. I was lying on the floor for a bit more than an hour. NOT taking this again! NO!

[identity profile] melanie.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
hopefully, after a little bit that side effect will wear off.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'm almost back to normal now. That was yucky. Waaah.

[identity profile] quasigeostrophy.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oy! Definitely be careful getting home.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's ironic that the dinner order went in while I was lying on the floor hoping my head would stay attached, so I didn't get food, but I also am not quiiiiiiite back to normal such that I want to go home for dinner either. Murphy's law! Ah well, it'll eventually fade completely.

DIZZY!

You rang????

Hahaha just kidding! Ugh, dizziness sucks. I hope it goes away soon.

Hi! *wave*

Yeah, I hate it when it gets bad enough to cause queasiness. It's mostly gone by now.

Good! Just remember your college/high school days and put one foot on the floor to keep it from spinning. *grin*

I usually hang on to it with both hands. Sometimes even that doesn't work. :-)

[identity profile] datagoddess.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yikes! Is there someone who can get you home? I can't remember how long of a driver you have, but even if it is just across the street, it's too far to drive. Can [livejournal.com profile] rfrench come get you?

Maybe some water to help it get through your system faster?

*hugs*

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Four miles - I have a wondrously short commute. I'm mostly back to normal now and will wait until I feel confident about driving before I set out. (And yeah, I drank a lot of water!)

Thanks!

I was really wondering, for a while there, how I was even going to get in touch with anyone. I was down on the floor and the phone was alllll the way up on the desk -- completely unreachable. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go through the humiliation of hollering "Could someone come in here and help me?"

[identity profile] datagoddess.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I've had to do that, when I was having an asthma attack and my purse (with my inhaler) was at my desk. Not fun.

Glad you're doing better.

And I'd like to see the one that turns your hair fushia, too. Only if it turns all your hair, though ;-)

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh ick. I'm glad that most people, when the brown stuff hits the rotating blades, will just quietly go do the helpful thing.

If something turned some hair fuchsia and some bright green, I wouldn't want to be in the same county with it.

[identity profile] ericainohio.livejournal.com 2005-02-03 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Aw geez. I'm really glad to hear that it cleared up for you. Maybe the warnings on the packaging should say something like, "No really - we MEAN it about this side effect". So did you ever remember/find out the name of the medication? I'm very curious.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-03 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think it was indomethacin (Indocin) -- an NSAID I had never heard of before, which is rare :-). I'll look when I get home.

[identity profile] jupiter29.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ick. I hope I never have to take that medicine. I'm glad to hear you are feeling better, though.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! This one was quite the, um, eye-opener. :-)

[identity profile] jupiter29.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't sound fun at all. Especially since once you've taken it, you can't do much expect wait it out. :( I hope it was at least slightly better than whatever you took the medicine for in the first place.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, I just waited it out. I briefly thought of trying to induce vomiting, but the stuff was already in my bloodstream, so with no real knowledge of how much was where by that time I just plunked myself on the floor and waited until it stopped moving. :-)

The medicine was for the inflammation in my feet. It didn't even dull the pain. At least that makes my decisions easy! No more of THAT going into my mouth!

[identity profile] jupiter29.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That was probably the best way to handle it, but annoying. I've heard you mention your feet a few times, but wasn't sure what the whole story was. And I'm not particularly asking, since I suppose I'll find our eventually if it's something you talk about. :) But at least you can move on to something else now, that might work.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, definitely annoying! At least it was very short-term.

The foot saga's hopefully almost over. I had Morton's neuroma (four of 'em) and got them killed. The residual inflammation was supposed to be gone a month ago. So, anti-inflams. [fingers crossed.]

[identity profile] jupiter29.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. I am happy to hear it is something that has an end in sight. :)
