Well, it feels like I finally got what Rob has had for the last three-four weeks. My throat is sore and swollen.

Great friggin' timing. If this is so I'm going to be coughing up phlegm all night during the entire trip to Japan. (I never get an easier case of a thing than Rob gets. Often I skip it entirely, but if I get it it's bad.) I'll cross my fingers that we stay in places with heat.

I devoutly hope I'm wrong about this. I hope I'm not really actually sick.

It's surprising it waited this long. Usually, when one of us is sick we sleep apart, but we haven't been doing that this time. He's been coughing on me for weeks. Why would my body finally lose the battle *now*?

Because he's been coughing on you for three weeks?

I hope you're not sick, too. When do you leave for Japan?

I got sick on my and Dan's Paris/London trip. Before we left London, he was sick, too. We went through an entire big box of tissues during the flights (we bought the box at Gatwick, it was empty when we landed at Indy).

I leave on Saturday. Ugh, glad you got that box of tissues -- long plane flights with not enough tissues are AWFUL!

Why would my body finally lose the battle *now*?

Because you're stressed by getting ready for the trip. Your immune system has been holding its own all this time, but it's weaker now because of the stress (remember, excitement is a physical stressor as well as the hassle of organizing and packing). So the viral load got close to pathological level.

Actually, it could be a bacterial infection. The course of a cold/flu virus is usually about two weeks. If Rob has been sick for three or four weeks, maybe he needs an antibiotic. If that works, you'd know it's bacterial and you could get started on it in time to clear it up.

Even if it's a virus, concentrate on not being sick. Do some creative visualization a few times a day. Picture your white cells -- as soldiers or tiny doctors in white coats or whatever image works for you -- overcoming the invaders. That actually can have an effect.

Good luck! I'm sending lots of strong, healthy energy your way!

You should come back to Egypt. Arabic sounds better when you're coughing up phelgm as you speak. Don't think Japanese does.

I'm less stressed now than I was a week or two ago. It's a puzzlement. But then, I usually succumb once life gets *better*. No fair!

So far our research indicates that what Rob has is not bacterial, although medical websites agree that a strong majority of doctors would give him antibiotics for it anyway.

I'm on to the less-painful part -- yesterday my tonsils were in agony, today they merely hurt.

You always know what to say to put a big grin on my face! :-)

Thanks! The fever broke this morning. (Well, I think it did. Morning temps tend to be low, but this was 98.2, so I'm pretty sure.)

If my throat didn't still hurt I might think I was well. But if this is what Rob had, there's already crap in my lungs and I just haven't started the bad part yet.
