I'm clearly becoming adjusted to these orthotics... well, okay, to the new Big Honking Lumps under specific bones.

Square dancing all weekend, last weekend, worked out pretty well. I was pleasantly surprised. My feet were tired, showing me just how "out of shape" for walking I have become. I haven't been able to walk far for months, and now I'm a tenderfoot! :-)

This morning, I decided to try to run with the B.H.Lumps. Placing the things in my running shoes was tough - they really don't fit quite right. If I learn exactly how they go, I can cut the soft toe part down to size. They're designed for that. (I hope I don't screw up; they're expensive.) I made it about 1/2 mile, maybe 3/4. There were some stabbing pains, probably from slight placement error and from the tendon-stretching that's still going on as my feet adjust. Good thing I walked for a while before trying to run!

In short, looking hopeful. Yet again, the plan is to increase my running mileage slowly and the backup plan is to get the nerves killed.

Indeed it is. This morning I noticed some residual aching and tingliness, leading me to think that maybe these pads won't work for running, but I can at least give 'em the good old college try. I knew I'd lose the summer either way. Now I have loads of time to see if they'll work.
