At one mile I had to stop. Right foot hurt. GRRRRR.

Did I not get enough sleep? I don't know.
Was my stride any different today? I can't tell.
Have I not been stretching out enough? Maybe.
Did I do too much Wednesday morning? I'll ask the crystal ball.
Was there some minor inflammation in my body today, because yesterday I ate something I'm mildly allergic to, but not enough that I could tell in any other way? Who knows?

One word: bicycle.

Bicycling doesn't screw you up nearly as bad as running does.

If I had a dime for every bicyclist...

I don't like bicycling.

Wow! You're weird!

On short rides of 5-10 miles I get to see so much more than I would on a run, though I suppose some of the trails in Fall Creek can be kind of pretty, but it's basically a mile to the trails and back.

I'm glad you enjoy it.

I don't run to see things. I run to run, and to be in shape.

Backstory on the foot problem, by the way: no one knows what did this to me, not even my doctor, so an implication that it was running is a little odd. I also hike, backpack, and just plain walk a lot. This problem affects all three and could have been caused by any of them. If I were to switch to bicycling for my cardiovascular exercise, I would still want to deal with this foot problem because I like to be able to walk.

Now don't you go bringing reason in to this.

I'd probably enjoy running more if I coud do it without injuring myself. Every time I've tried to start running to get into shape, I've screwed up my feet, shins or knees.

Life reared it's ugly head and kept me from dancing for months. When I started again, I noticed something odd, dancing didn't hurt! Over the past few years I'd tried just about everything except not dancing. My current goal is to get back in shape without hurting myself so I can recover leg strength and still dance without pain.

It's really twisted, but I don't know any serious dancers that have legs and feet that aren't screwed up in some way.

I promise I won't do it again unless, um, I feel like it. I admit I'm pretty darn frustrated by the lack of real knowledge about this foot pain.

Oh boy. :-)

I don't know very many serious anythings who aren't screwed up in some way. Y'know what I've decided? Getting older sucks. Thank goodness there are some compensations.

You mean, like the alternative is being dead?
Friday, June 11th, 2004 03:42 pm (UTC)
Well, that too. :-)

I was thinking more of the alternative of being a pimply drama-ridden hormonal mess who's convinced I could do anything better than my parents could and who's so @#$! depressed I'm amazed I survived. I think I'm glad I'm not there any more.
