I ran a mile Saturday morning.
I ran a mile Sunday morning.

YAY! Two days in a row! And my bloodstream was low on painkillers both mornings, which turned out to be Very Bad for other reasons but did give me a good idea of whether my feet really hurt. They didn't. Only the tiniest of tingles.

This is a HUGE sign of hope. Maybe I can leave the nerves in place, alive.

Aftereffects: mild soreness, mild tingling, starting yesterday and continuing into today.

Plan: 1) Run three days a week (no two adjacent), build up my wind again.
2) Gradually expand mileage until running, say, 3 miles or so easily.
3) Break 9mi/wk down into a four-day-per-week regimen.
4) Gradually expand mileage to train for whatever length I want.

I am very sorry to miss Bay to Breakers this year (it's next weekend) and am visualizing myself joyfully running it in 2005.

Thanks! 8-) Fingers crossed -- at any time it could flare back up.

I love that happy-kitty icon!

Yeah!
Maybe you can get the other problem fixed and not need pain killers!

Oh, I hope so! I have to be prepared to take a month off work though. :-O

I think that would rougher than the foot surgery.
But having had surgery in that area (a c-section), it wasn't as bad as I thought. Some people heal and take pain well, other people reach for the strongest stuff made for a minor bump!

Yes, that would be rougher than foot surgery.

It's true that there's a lot of variation between people, and there are some things that make me think I might be on the quick end of things: I tend to heal quickly, I've had practice doing things despite pain, and my job doesn't require much physical movement. But it still worries me. I'm not eighteen any more and the FASTEST anyone has ever gotten back to work after this is something like a week. I don't have a week, not until 2006. :-/

Still. 2006 is a lot better than never.

After a year, you should be eligible for FMLA - it's leave even if it is unpaid. And perhaps you can work from home.

Thanks! I ran another mile this morning. There's only a little lingering soreness, and there was no pain during the run. I'm so pleased I can barely contain myself!
