Told the physical therapist ("PT") what happened this weekend. He said that with an overuse injury I have to be very careful to ramp up slowly. Obviously I can't run on two adjacent days yet, therefore I shouldn't do that yet.
It had never occurred to me that this is "an overuse injury". But it acts like one. Other injuries cause the same level of pain two adjacent times, but overuse injuries do what mine does. I guess that makes sense once I think about it.
So it'll be sllllooooooww.
I'm still determined to do what I need to do to get back out there again. I'm also bummed at how long it might take.

Thanks! I can use 'em! :-)
I'm writing down what I want so I don't forget when I walk into the doctor's office next week. After one more week of PT I see the podiatrist again, and I want to remember to ask him how to fix this reliably and, second priority behind reliability, fast. If that means getting the nerve killed I want to know what the risks and negatives are so I can choose.
