I was sitting at the home computer, looking out the window, when I saw a pretty calico walking along the top of the fence. I quietly went out the door. She clearly didn't want me to get anywhere near her, but I sweet-talked her a little and she reluctantly didn't leave. She did hiss once. I crept a little closer and said quiet stuff and blinked a lot, and eventually she agreed to come over and sniff my fingers a few times. I bet if I were home much, I could make friends with her. It would take some patience.

I recognize the round yellow tag that means she's been chipped. Wonder which humans near me are hers.

This is of course why you need a digital camera - take a picture first, then approach, then you have something to post and/or ask around about....

Older tracker-chips needed a close-up reader, I wonder if RFID has caught on enough in that space - if they have, small and cheap readers are starting to appear [nokia has an add-on shell for one of their phones, for example, that includes a short-range reader], it might be interesting to have a "nearby cat tracking" system for your yard :-)
