It's the sugar spike that worried me a little, so I only ate part of it. The rest is waiting in the freezer for later. :-)

[livejournal.com profile] wordripples and I went to coldstone in Pleasanton tonight after dinner. I did note that it was a bit chilly when I saw the bank temp/time sign say that it was 39F. Probably not ideal weather to walk 4 blocks for icecream wearing dockers and a t-shirt.

Since there is a coldstone walking distance from Karen's, we go there with some frequency. The last time I went before tonight, I got some of their ice cream plain. I'm pretty certain that it has a pretty hefty dose of guar gum in it. I'd expect so, as guar gum is used to aid keeping the consistency stable despite temperature changes.

I will spare you the full rant, but guar gum is evil. People will claim that it has no taste, but that is not true. Sometime, try a side by side tasting of Philly cream cheese (or creamcheese like substance, with guar gum) and Gina Marie's creamcheese (no guar gum). Likewise try side by side tastings of Haagen Daaz, Breyers (with a 'B' not a 'D'), homemade or any other guargum free ice cream and an ice cream with guar gum. In contrast, the difference is striking.

I'll also spare you my "corn syrup is evil" rant.
