I'm back. (Rob rewired the cable modem box. Someone from the shallow end of the gene pool had come out and screwed it up. Cable company denies all knowledge, despite tag with their name on it tied to the changes. Ah, what I'd give for a market with competition!)

I still can't quite bring myself to admit they are as bad as they are. Fortunately, Kate is around and is much less optimistic than I. When she recently refused the installation for our new dsl and saw my expression of "about to object" she just asked, "Do you really suppose they are going to send someone who knows more about it than I do?" This isn't boastful on her part... she'll be the first to admit limited knowledge of networking. She just has negative confidence in who they'd send.
