Hot.

Hot hot hot.

Hungry. Queasy.

Every morning I think "aw who cares, I'll eat after I run." By the end of even three miles I begin to understand why some distance runners puke. It's insidious, though: I wake up the next morning and think "Sure, it was icky for a while there, but who cares -- I'll eat after I run."

Same thing with going early in the morning. I'm lounging in bed or reading e-mail thinking "aw, a half hour later won't make much difference" and then by the time I'm done it's in the nineties.

I know a few tricks to get my misbehaving mind to straighten out and fly right. Looks like it's time to dust them off.

I'm having a low blood sugar problem myself when I exercise. If I don't eat something with carbs AND protein right before I exercise, I end up horribly low and shaky and stuffing anything I can find into my mouth -- and then my stomach gets upset and I'm tired.

But if I eat something before I go exercise, I end up feeling bloated and sick to my stomach. But I'm having such a good time exercising!

How 'bout eating just a little bit before you go? I can usually chomp down a Balance bar (supposedly "good for me" but essentially it's a Snickers candy bar) and not feel too bloated. But if I had an actual meal, forget it. And no guzzling water, either.

Yeah, it's so hot out here that the last time I went jogging, even though I went in the morning, I ended up guzzling water. On top of my peanut butter sandwich. Felt completely icky!!

I need to find some "energy bar" type thing out here. Something complex enough to last me, but something that won't bloat me.

I hear ya. Nutter Butters used to do it for me, before I got thoroughly sick of them. I'd've guessed peanut butter might be a good choice.

I have no idea what I'd do about the heat. Except run in the middle of the night! Carry crushed ice, maybe? to stick a sliver in your mouth every so often?
