[livejournal.com profile] cwilson and I made Christmas cookies yesterday. Mmm!

At one point my electric mixer produced a Bad Electrical Smell. I took it apart to make sure nothing critical was melted; fortunately all insulation was in place and it just needed some serious cooling-off time. I kneaded in the last cup of flour by hand. I found I enjoyed working the dough with my hands. I'll do it that way more often, I think.

Some of the cookies are already decorated. Others, baked by Chris after I had to go home, now await frosting. I love love love my frosting recipe. Mmmm. I am eager to taste those frosted cookies.

(Mittens? Yes? I can smell your spicy cookies.)

I find, personally, that there is nothing more theraputic than kneading dough. Except perhaps kneading dough while the radio plays music you can sing along with -- and you do, and loudly.

I love kneading dough. I've done this with bread dough before. I also know of no way to get meatloaf mixed well without using my hands, so I do that too, although it's a lot less enjoyable because the meat and egg and such are COLD. But Christmas cookie dough... that's a new one on me! I'm glad I know it gets to a workable consistency that early.

I can just imagine you in your kitchen kneading dough and singing something Ani diFranco like at the top of your lungs. :-) Of course, my mental picture has your old Indiana kitchen.

To be honest, my favorite is opera. Nice, loud, Marriage of Figaro, singing Cheribino off to war in Italian I don't understand.
