Over Labor Day Weekend, 2001, I started organizing my photos since 1989. I then abandoned the project for over a year.

Now I have time and energy.

The 2001 post is over-optimistic; what I really had in good order was up to 1997. I have since discovered more 1997 photos. Several rolls I didn't recognize at all, and it turned out they were taken by Rick and abandoned when he left this house. Anything of the cats I'll keep; I'll give his ex-wife a roll taken at her parents' house; the rest are apparently photos for homeowners' insurance, on his previous place, and can safely be pitched.

1998 and 1999 are now in GOOD order, with good dates attached. Old e-mail and Rob's flight logbook helped here.

2000 is a pit. I went hiking far too many places. I haven't searched old e-mail yet, but even that may not help. At least I am sure of the year, for everything in 2000.

2001 and 2002 are also, now, in GOOD order with good dates attached. LiveJournal and my stack of "to scrapbook someday" items helped immensely for this time period. I won't label 2002 until I am sure there are no undeveloped rolls of film in the house, though.

During 2000 and 2001 I sometimes used disposable cameras when my regular one was unavailable. This makes sorting into chronological order very difficult, because multiple rolls can straddle each other until they are inextricably braided through a particular section of time. Ah well --- where would life be without challenges?

I feel good that I'm making progress. It's much better now than it was a couple days ago. Even if I abandon it again soon, next time I pick it up I'll have this much less to do.

Now I want to see whether my parents are willing to send me the dozen or so old, empty photo albums I saw lying around. They're for 3.5x5 prints and they're a style I like. Only icky albums are made for that size print these days. I sure hope my folks don't simply toss them.
