*chuckle* That did come out sounding kind of odd, didn't it? Actually I was not only expecting this for a long time, I actually volunteered to be one of the ones cut. So the only unhappy/stressful bit is the now-finality of it, the fact I'm not going to be there Ever Again.
Wednesday, November 20th, 2002 11:37 pm (UTC)
Yay! Joe wondered if it would be today. I guessed Friday. ;)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:41 am (UTC)
As of Monday, I thought Thursday. As of Tuesday, I was very very sure it would be Wednesday. Well! Now I have today off... what to do? What to do? Oh wait! After today, it seems I also have the whole rest of the year off! :-)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:42 am (UTC)
Don't you have a Thanksgiving-weekend trip to prepare for? Calls to practice? Kitties to scritch? ;)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:53 am (UTC)
Kittiiiiiiiieeeees! :-) :-)

Yes, I should study C4 for this weekend (in Chicago dancing with people who have been told I am gaining a clue) and I should write some more stuff for the Thanksgiving weekend (calling) and then, well, it's just holiday shopping and suchlike.

Congratulations on getting laid off! (I hope you got a big package...)

(rereading that, I mean that last bit in at least two different ways, although only one of them probably has anything to do with work.)

Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:43 am (UTC)
No comment. 8-)

Oh, the severance. Yeah, it's nice, as good as the last group got. I only wish I could defer the lump sum payment into next tax year, so as to avoid losing most of it.
Wednesday, November 20th, 2002 11:53 pm (UTC)
Well, that sorta makes my day look pretty tame by comparison.

Lotsa luck kiddo.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:44 am (UTC)
Thanks! I am going to GOOF OFF for a while. Unless the perfect job falls in my lap, that is. That would be a difficult decision, because I'd like some time off, but I'm not stupid enough to turn anything down in this economy.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:55 am (UTC)
Goofing off is good. Having done that to some degree for a few months, I'm now getting into the idea of the stuff I can accomplish around here. But the goofing off was necessary at first.

Congratulations!
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 09:00 am (UTC)
I think that's very true, at least for me and for many people I know: we need to goof off a bit before we find what we need to do next. Rob phrases it as "you have to get bored."
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 12:03 am (UTC)
Glad about the denist....
Sorry about the lay off...but you are not surprised.....hope the package was good....
I know the feeling of "not sure what to do with yourself" was that way for awhile......I have to say that my house has never been cleaner...
Hugs
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:45 am (UTC)
Package will keep me going for a while, thank goodness. And yes, I have ALREADY started on cleaning things up around here! Amazing, isn't it? :-) :-)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 12:16 am (UTC)
It's a relief, innit? :)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:41 am (UTC)
'Tis! Phew.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 05:24 am (UTC)
Ceej, hope this turns into a positive time for you. You've gone through so much shit lately -- it's probably good that you're getting time to think about stuff and figure out what to do next.

Hugs,
-Wen

Thanks -- I hope so too. I'm thinking of it as my get-my-head-together time, and I'm crossing my fingers that I can make some progress on that front before the next batch of brown stuff hits the rotating blades. Not that I know yet what that would be, but I've just got a feeling that there's something still out there with my name on it!
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 05:39 am (UTC)
Got laid...

My brain stopped there and though "nice" ;)

But then I saw the other word. Bummer, but at least you won't be the one turning off the lights. Hope you got a good package.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:54 am (UTC)
They kept more people than I expected, but still, it won't be very cheerful in that group for a while. I'm glad it's not me. The package will tide me over for a while, which is a very very happy thing!
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 06:03 am (UTC)
CJ... I am sorry about the layoff... but enjoy being free for a little while... hope the package was good.

Take care
Gidget
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:55 am (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah, I'll be okay for a while. And I bet my house will get nice and organized! :-)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 07:41 am (UTC)
Um... congratulations?
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:55 am (UTC)
Yes, thank you! :-)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:35 am (UTC)
May you discover rewarding work as soon as you want to!
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 08:57 am (UTC)
Thanks! And hopefully no sooner... I no like hard decisions. :-)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 09:31 am (UTC)
Conga Rats, and here's to a glorious future - sometime. But it sounds like now's the time to veg and regroup and have a bit of a physical/psychological/spiritual rest.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 10:56 am (UTC)
It sure is! I'm glad I can see the sun peeking out a bit now, as I look out the window... I needed that. :-)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 09:33 am (UTC)
Sounds like you got what you wanted, since you were a "volunteer". Still, can't be easy... Good luck!!
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 10:55 am (UTC)
You're absolutely right that it's not as easy as I thought. At least severance pay helps a great deal, and knowing that I volunteered (and maybe helped someone else be able to stay) feels very good.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 10:14 am (UTC)
Like everybody else, I just want to say good luck with whatever you choose to do next, and enjoy your goofing off time :)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 10:54 am (UTC)
Thanks! :-)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 10:29 am (UTC)
My wife got laid off Tuesday. *sigh* 'Tis the season. *hugs*
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 10:54 am (UTC)
'Tis indeed! It does sorta suck that this tends to happen just before the holidays. Me, I don't mind this particular instance, but many people do. I hope your wife is OK emotionally. Is she currently searching for a new job?
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 11:14 am (UTC)
Yup, 'specially since I can't work. She just got information on a job at the school the kids and me are going. If she gets it, not only will we have income, but we'll get a discount on school. Here's hopin'.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 11:29 am (UTC)
I wish you both the best of luck on that score, then! [fingers crossed]
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 01:25 pm (UTC)
((Hugs)). Hope your package was good (I think I had 1 month's pay when I was let go last year).
I hope good things come of it.
(I think good things came from my layoff, the job I got afterwards wasn't great but while I wasn't working or just when I came back I got pregnant with Alan!)
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 04:43 pm (UTC)
Well, that's something your previous employer probably didn't mean to be giving you! ;-) I'm glad it worked out that way, though!
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 04:00 pm (UTC)
What a mitzvah you did! Enjoy your leisure time, you deserve it.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 04:44 pm (UTC)
Thanks! So far today I have been quite unproductive, and it's been great.
Thursday, November 21st, 2002 09:16 pm (UTC)
I know you were kind of wanting to get laid off, so should I be offering congratulations? I have no doubt you'll find a new one pretty quickly, though!
Friday, November 22nd, 2002 08:32 am (UTC)
Thanks! I'm not strenuously looking right now; I'd rather take time off. But if the perfect job presents itself, I'll have a tough decision to make. Right now I should be updating my resume because a very smart group of people has an opening and I just might be able to get an offer...
