Why is it that the people I'd love to hear from, the people who couldn't possibly tell me too much about what's going on in their lives, the people I really enjoy talking to, the people I wish I could spend more time with, the people I would really like to have open up and share things with me... are NEVER EVER the same ones who phone me up out of the blue and assume I have an hour to listen to them blather?

I guess this post could have been a lot shorter. To wit: "Caller ID is your friend."

...and...you have Caller ID...don't you?

My calls to you are always blocked, until I remember to press extra buttons to specify my ID.(

I do indeed, but no amount of technology will save me if I'm too stupid to use it. :-)

Sorry about that inconvenience, by the way. It has saved us from telemarketers just beautifully, but it's a pain to our friends... not a happy set of alternatives to trade off.

And while we're at it, why is when the people we want to call us finally DO call, we're in the middle of about 10 different crises (including dinner burning in the kitchen) and can't talk to them -- and then they never call back??

Caller ID can't solve that one. Take-out could -- if only places still delivered during Ramadan.

No kidding!! Of course, you could call back when you're not busy, but Murphy's Law says they'll be out then.

Wireless headsets might help with that one. (Hah - there's a technology answer to everything!) Unless any of your crises include talking.

Places don't deliver during Ramadan? Can you still go get take-out?

No, most restaurants are closed, period. Except the sweet shops. :) But I can't very well feed my kids nothin' but cake for EVERY dinner....

Oh wow. Are the sweet shops open during the day, or only in the evening? How about stuff like groceries?
