Yeah, I'm at work. Two of us are here right now to provide an odd sort of moral support to the team whose work is supposed to reach us Any Moment Now. They're working hard and it's probably reassuring to them that we're here waiting to catch when they throw. A fine balance between annoying pressure and demoralizing abandonment.
In the meantime, I can fill out a survey...
1. Open up your CD player, what's inside?
On the machine at work, where I am: nothing. (That's surprising - I thought I left the guitar concertos in there.) In the car on the way over: Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. I have been listening to those over and over for weeks.
2. Look in your VCR/DVD player, is there a movie?
Don't have one. I know my housemates watch movies sometimes, when I am not around; if I were at home I could look in Rob's VCR and see what he has.
3. If there happens to be music playing right now, what is it?
There isn't any.
4. What are you wearing?
Yellow hair elastic; 18ga steel earrings with hematite captive beads; a black T-shirt from the 312th Airlift Squadron with a C-5A Galaxy transport aircraft on it and the words "SIZE DOES MATTER"; wedding band, class ring, the most beautiful watch in the whole wide world, a Band-Aid; pager, ID badge, very worn black leather belt; light blue jeans; white ankle socks; once-were-black shoes with holes in the bottom and paint specks from a Community Impact volunteer day. Not visible: Victoria's Secret underwire bra, 12ga steel ring with steel captive bead; boring no-name cotton undies.
5. Look down, what's the first thing that catches your eye?
Band-Aid on my right index finger. Can you believe I sliced it open on take-out food?
6. Turn on your TV if it's not on already, what network is on?
If I were home and did this, it would probably be nothing - tuned to vcr input. We have no cable or antenna hooked up. My housemates use it to watch movies.
7. Look out the window, what's the weather like?
If I lean way back I can see a sort-of window (skylight, kinda) from here. There is sunlight on the visible bits of tree, the tree isn't moving, and the sky is uniformly very pale blue. From this I deduce that it is between May and October.
8. If you were to hit redial on your phone right now, where would it call?
My coworker's house. Last night I got to phone two guys to tell them to stand down from the 7am shift.
9. Say "hello?" out loud, did anyone answer?
No. Probably no one in the building is within hearing range.
10. What are you planning on doing next as soon as you get offline?
I'll stay on line, but after the survey I'm eating my sandwich.
