Last Saturday: Two weeks until we fly to Sweden. I would really like to obtain a waterproof coat for the trip, but I may not have time. I need to write 160 sequences of C3B square dance choreography, which should take most of my free time for two weeks, and I need to get a complex chunk of software functioning at work, which I'll be lucky to finish in two weeks if I work evenings and weekends. I spend twelve hours at a friend's memorial gathering.

Sunday: Rick phones up out of the blue and says he'll be parking in front of the house for several days, and please can he hook up to our electricity and take showers and use the laundry, and hey let's do dinner and hang out. When he hears that I am busy, he tells me he will wait to gloat about his new carefree no-job lifestyle later, when I'm not there.

Monday: I start saying no to stuff. No more square dancing, no more time with friends. In addition, no one else is allowed to die in the next couple weeks. I hope everyone around me respects this new rule.

Thursday: I now need 90 sequences of choreography and the chunk of software is doing quite a lot of things right. Rob will be out of town for a few days next week, so I get to be the substitute caller for next week's square dance club. And by the way, could I help him out with Yosemite lodging reservations?

Tomorrow: One week until we depart for Sweden...

It could be worse. I could be having crippling abdominal pain this week.

I'll bet REI.com can get you a waterproof coat within two weeks if you order today.

They sure could. I love REI. It's down to a week and a day now, so I should go in person. Ironically, I live within jogging distance of an Any Mountain (used to be REI - dang, wish REI had kept that location, but anyhow) with a great selection of coats. All I need to do is be there when they're open... silly CJ, why is that difficult?

Rest assured that I, at least, will be doing everything within my power to comply by this rule. :)

Hope everything gets better and less crazed for you very soon.

Much appreciated, ma'am. [tipping my hat to you in gratitude!]

Maybe I'm a dummy about these things, but how carefree can a lifestyle be if it still requires electricity??

Still pretty carefree by his lights, I suppose. He lives in a trailer, and he drives all over the country to fly hang gliders at various places. He has very little in the way of responsibilities or commitments. Of course, he also has very little in the way of elbow room (there's a woman and two cats in that trailer too) or hot water.
