I'm backdating this so it looks like I wrote it last night. Hee!
I had a WONDERFUL day!
Got up early and decided to sort stuff for scrapbooking. The only actual "scrapbook" Long's had was way huge. Sorry, no, I have long since learned to consider storage problems in my purchasing decisions! I settled on one with plastic sleeve protectors around all the pages. It comes in 8.5x11, nice dark green, and will be good enough. Sorted old cruft into "souvenir" and "crap" until Chris arrived.
He had FOOD! Yum. I hadn't dealt with that yet. He also had a great book listing possible hikes. He'd selected an eight-mile loop with very modest elevation gain and a lovely photo of a waterfall. Sold!
I called the shop and my car was indeed ready. Thank goodness - that saved me having to leave my credit card for Kim to use. Chris and I picked up the car on the way out to the hike. The bill wasn't too horrible. Oh, blessed air conditioning!
The hike was beautiful. It was west of the peninsula's spine, foggy and moist, and full of lush greenery. We saw a wide variety of ferns and moss. We saw sorrel (not blooming), mistook it for clover, and wasted a bunch of time looking for four-leaves. Found wild blackberries and ate a couple. We saw uncounted banana slugs, one cute pebbledy lizard (I petted him), one deer (staring at us down the trail until she nonchalantly wandered off to the side), one rabbit (I missed the rabbit), and one skunk (I wish I had missed the skunk -- thank goodness he wasn't ticked at us). We skipped a couple of short detours to wonderful views. Our view was maybe a quarter to a half mile in fog. I was glad I had a jacket. We did not see the waterfall. Turns out that wasn't on this hike; it was just placed in this hike's description in the book. And the elevation gain was definitely a bit more than specified, although not enough to cause problems for my knees, thank goodness. Oh well. :-)
Ate dinner at Alice's Restaurant. Had never done that before. That song kept running through my head the rest of the evening.
At home, poked around on Google and corrected our misinterpretation about the sorrel. Got some blackberries and vanilla ice cream, had dessert, and let each cat lick one bowl. What happy cats!
After driving Chris home, I made the unhappy discovery that my hot tub settings were messed up and it was therefore unusable. I set it to heat back up again and climbed into bed.
jackiecat slept on me. What a lovely ending to a lovely day!
