I am looking for a low-maintenance hairstyle. My hair is fine, limp, and only slightly wavy when long; it is springy-curly when short. I would like a short hairstyle for swimming, riding in convertibles (Rob's thinking of buying a convertible), gardening, and rolling over in my sleep. I would like a long hairstyle so I don't have to go get it cut every so often and so I don't have to worry which way the hair is pointing while it dries. I definitely require a hairstyle with NO blow-drying, NO curling, NO gel. If I can't do it with a comb it's not going to get done.

Can't have all of these, but I can have all but one. Front runner is a buzzcut.

My buttlength ponytail is the lowest-maintenance hairstyle I have ever had. No wasted time at some weird-smelling hair salon. No worrying about which way it will flop when it dries. However, I am really getting tired of waiting all day for it to dry, avoiding swimming, tying it up for hot tubs, having it get in my face during anything even remotely fun, etc etc. And it's not like it flatters me. Then again, neither would a buzzcut...!

I have always thought that extremely long hair was highly attractive and very sexy. Esp. ponytails. I knew this gal that had long red hair about mid-thigh length. I could sit for hours brushing her hair...I enjoyed it that much.

On the other hand, extremely short hair is kind of a turn on too.

Typical me: no middle of the road..only extremes.

I have a germ of an idea somewhere stating "there are people who should, and people who should not, grow their hair long". Some kinds of hair look beautiful long. Others just... well... don't. I put myself in the latter category. But long means no haircut appointments!

I think your hair looks really nice long. I imagine there are styles that would look on you, too, but I can't picture hairstyles well.

I just want flattering hair around my face, and I can't have to mess with it every day. I don't even shower every morning.

I've had bangs and mid-back hair since the beginning of time. I want change. But this might be what I keep.

Thanks! I like full, thick, healthy-looking hair this long. I think of mine as too fine and fragile.

I too do not shower every morning. If I had short hair I might.

Good luck finding a style that works well for you. I like the one you linked to in your post, but I don't know enough to guess how much mucking about in the morning it would require.

I'm well-known for preferring long hair, so of course I'm prolly biased, but I think long hair looks wonderful on you! And I'd give anything to be able to grow butt-length hair myself, but my hair is *way* too thin and weak -- all I can get is mid-back. Oh well.

Going by the shape of your face in your pictures, I'd imagine you could cut your hair quite short and have it look very flattering. A buzzcut might be a bit too short though. I think a cut that left 2 or 3 inches on top and then was evenly graduated at the back and sides would frame your face well, exposing the nape of your neck (which is both cool and a flattering look for women with long, slender necks) and require nothing more than daily brushing in the morning and a once monthly haircut. That should also dry quickly after washing or swimming, and if you forgot to brush it you could run your fingers through it and get by with that for a few hours.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've had a cut like that, in college. I think it probably did work well. (best I can remember, anyway.) Would have looked better with more futzing about in the morning, with blowdryer and gel, but looked okay without and that's good enough for me.

I was also going to recommend that hairstyle. I have it, and it's very low-maintenance, but it doesn't tend to attract as many stares as a buzz cut, which I've also had.

Then again, I also think your ponytail is very lovely.

A local hair person calls her biz "Wash and Wear Haircuts". You might try looking or asking for those key words in your area.

I think short (but not buzz) would look lovely on you, as well.

A few years ago, I went from fairly long hair (mid back) to EXTREMELY short hair. Not quite a buzz cut, but, oh so close. What a RELIEF it has been! And very cute, too, although a little butch at times. But, yes, I do go to the salon every month. And I do use a VERY minimal amount of "hair product." But I like the spiky look, and gel is required. But on a day-to-day basis, it's still far easier than the long hair.

Now, if I had hair like kimatha's...believe me, it would be long. From your picture, your long hair looks great on you. But I know how it can be to actually LIVE with fine hair. Not easy.

If you have long fine hair, you may be interested in checking out the best product to come along in many years for detangling and silkening hair. I'm addicted to it, and spread it to long-haired friends whenever I can (ask joedecker about it!). It's helped me to reduce my combing-out time by a factor of 10! I've nicknamed it "Hair Lube" since it used to come in a lube-shaped bottle (cylinder with big dome-shaped pull-top) *and* it felt kinda like lube. It *works* like a great lube for your hair, that leaves it silky instead of icky or sticky! Inexplicably, it's not sold as a detangler, but it's a SPECTACULARLY good detangler, and I won't be without it, ever! It's a leave-in product, and works like a charm.
