TIL that the word “fete” (“fête”) is, in English, pronounced “fate”. I’d had no clue.

I think both pronounciations (fate and fet) are common.

The dictionary I consulted lists only “fate”. I admit I had always pronounced it “fet”, in my ignorance (plus my grounding in French). If “fet” turns out to be popular I shall be unreasonably pleased.

It turns out that it can matter for cryptic crosswords. :)
