I knew Thanksgiving was a big one

I had no idea Easter was such a big holiday for people traveling out of town. In the vet clinic where I work, every dog run is occupied, plus four smaller cages for smaller dogs; there are also three cats (one of whom is a HOMICIDAL BALL OF FURY) and one friendly apricot-colored rat. Today I am the one responsible for all of them.

Open Note to a beautiful black dog with hints of white in her fur: please, when we bring you outside several times a day, spend a moment or two thinking of what the reason for that might be. The lovely bed your owners brought for you is a bit big for our laundry facilities.

An apricot coloured rat? That sounds deeply adorable.

Very adorable! The instructions say "please handle at least once a day" -- oh, how onerous. Woe is me!

How can your employers ask such a thing of you? Seek legal representation at once! :-D

Is that Dr. G's rat? I feel all back-stage-y and informed.

It is! What a sweetie. :-)

Rats are such sweet animals. As long as they're not in my henhouse!

Well, yeah, there is that. :-/

Many years ago, when I volunteered at the Humane Society, a wonderful rat named Lily was surrendered. She was at the shelter for quite a while and we all handled her. I have fond memories of Lily riding on my shoulder, burrowed under my hair, peeking out. I still remember the feel of her tail down my back. She was my first experience with rats--and what a pleasant one. I now have a much greater fear of the two-legged variety! Hope your experience is as pleasant as mine was.

Pet rats are really quite sweet. This one enjoyed sitting in the pocket of my scrubs shirt as I cleaned and re-filled her food bowl. It's fun letting them explore an arm and shoulder!
