How do I get the auto-refreshed view in the new interface? I think they called it Live Feed.

Is there a way to tell the site, or to tell my "view of what is going on" (there must be a name for that), that I do not want to hear about any more eggs (or SuperPokes or what-have-you) ever again? I think "blocking" the app just makes it not know about me. I want something that says I don't want to know about it.

[edit: OMG I FOUND THE FAQ. I will now act much more intelligent about all this. I promise. But I still want to know how to shut up an app.]

There's nothing in the official FAQ about either of these topics. Best I can tell from users' answers to questions, Live Feed functionality has been deleted from the site, and boy are people pissed.

I have figured out that I can stop hearing about eggs if I put the people who are collecting them in my "don't ever tell me about these people" bucket. That is of minimal help if the person collecting is, well, a friend of mine.

ed: The lack of answer to this question makes me think you actually can't do this. Amazing. If there is one thing that will drive me right back off the site, it's this kind of shit.

I've been trying off and on to find an answer to that question and everything I've seen so far suggests there's no way to do it. It might be possible for me to tell Facebook not to broadcast MY app activity, but I can't turn off other people's.

I'm astonished at how dreadful Facebook is. It took a good idea -- superficial content for people who don't want to get too in-depth with online social interaction -- and totally wrecked it. Twitter is similar (all that one-sided communication!). Ugh.

In a way, LiveJournal is similar. I would not mind NEVER EVER EVER seeing another batch of Twits or another quiz saying which nostril someone is. Unless the writer chooses to do the work of setting up filters, though, all I can do about it is stop reading anything that person chooses to post.

Hmmm, you're right. For some reason that bothers me less. Maybe because the person CHOOSES to post twits and quizzes on LJ, as opposed to it being the default broadcast of an app where it's not easy to figure out how to turn it off.

The other thing about LJ is that I've more carefully chosen the people on it based on liking their writing, whereas on Facebook it's just family and people I hardly knew in high school who found me, so maybe I wouldn't've added them if they were strangers and I'd had a chance to read back in their LJ first and find out how often they like to post quizzes. :)

Yes, both of those are definitely factors for me as well. I suspect what I'll do for Facebook is simply hide the people who use apps and find some other way to keep in touch with those folks. After all, two days ago I didn't have the option of keeping in touch through Facebook. I won't miss it.

When I get an app invitation from a friend, I block the app. That prevents ever getting another invite involving that app. Doesn't that accomplish what you want?

Nah, I'm looking for something that will block all instances of "NAME has VERBED NAME with SuperPoke!" in my news feed. I don't care if JoeBob has picked the forehead zit of LucyAnn with or without SuperPoke.

Those seem to me to be about what gets published on OTHER people's news feeds when I am the one using the app. Do I have it backwards? Do they configure both?

I did, with SuperPoke and Causes, the only two that were available to me in there. I probably need to wait a day to see what happens with those. As I've never been suckered into clicking on an egg, I don't have that one in my settings page. If this works with these two, I'll click on an egg just to get it there!

I actually am thinking that must do it, because I rarely if ever see any of this sort of thing, and I can't imagine that it's just that my friends don't use these apps, because I think they probably do. I pretty much Block all apps though.
