Cupboard overflow

I've heard it said that in New York City there are more cars than there are parking spaces. At any given moment, some of the cars are out driving on the roads.

Now that I'm off my restricted diet and eating through my frozen stash, I'm learning that a version of this principle applies to Tupperware.

You just need to make sure you only have the kind of container that nests, and store the lids separately. Some of them (rubbermaid #8, e.g.) are stupidly shaped.

IKEA has some very modestly priced, good quality, freezable storage. They have blue tops and they can be frozen and put in the microwave. I've been very happy with mine.

Yes, all of mine nest. (My kitchen is of a size to make a nice walk-in closet.) So far I've been storing the lids in a stack atop the bowls, but even moving the lids elsewhere won't solve it this time. Decluttering, here I come!

Nice! My problem at the moment is too MANY storage containers, but it's also true that a lot of mine are poor quality. Next time I am flush I may go stock up on some better stuff.

I have in my plastics cupboard - very cheap containers with lids that fit the first time you use them and then won't fit at all; moderatly cheap containers that work quite well until they decide to develop a hole or split; moderately expensive containers that work quite well, with lids that fit quite well, that have developed some pitting/staining from microwaving food with oil (??? try to eliminate it before freezing) and/or tomato products; expensive containers that are either too small for a purpose, too large or the wrong shape. Throw in some assorted lids that didn't get thrown away when the broken/useless container did and a hoarding instinct that is hard to squash and you have an interesting conglomeration of stuff.

I think I am going to relegate the Very Cheap Containers to non-food storage.

I know EXACTLY the categories you mean. I have a couple of very cheap ones, two expensive ones, and a big pile of each of the intermediate categories. So far, the moderately cheap ones look really good because they've never had tomato in them. :-) Their lids are slowly getting a little wonky, though.

Didn't do a blessed thing. Yes, it is very good to have such a wide variety of food choices again!
