Chem:

I'm in chem -- by the skin of my teeth. I was the last person taken from the wait list, and someone who was registered for the class showed up (very late) about ten minutes after the decision was made. If she'd gotten to class eleven minutes earlier, I'd've been out.

No one from the wait list got in to the afternoon section. 7:30AM Monday for the win.

AND I talked to the chem prof about my "possible conflict" with the final exam, letting him know that I knew I was traveling on business right around then but did not yet have tickets or an exact day. I asked whether I might be able to take the final early, and he said yeah, come talk to me when you have your tickets and we'll work it out. YESSSSS! So there's one class I can not only start, but finish, this quarter.

("Possible" conflict, ha. The final exam is on FRIDAY. That exam takes place at 4:30am Saturday Japan time, and I've got to be on the microphone in Tokyo Friday evening, which is Thursday here, which means I had really better fly Wednesday.)

Writing:

Winning this chem class means I will also try to stay in English Writing, my other early morning class. (MWF 7:30 chem; TR 7:50 writing.) May as well keep the sleep schedule consistent. Tomorrow I size up that prof for the first time, and within the first week and change, I need to ask her about the final exam to see whether I need to drop. This one is reputed to be an easy A. We shall see.

Bio:

I will find out Wednesday, at the second lab session, whether I'm in bio. I suspect not; only two people failed to show, and even those two have a second chance at it on Wednesday. Le sigh.

After today's lab, I suspect I'm going to LOVE that class, whether I get it this quarter or next.

Spanish:

Obviously I shouldn't be taking Spanish at all, but Japanese. I mean, where exactly am I going to BE during finals week? Not in Spain! Hello! But Japanese conflicts with chemistry. And hey, I've always wanted to learn Spanish. So far I can only tell a dog to sit.

If by the grace of my fairy godmother I do get into bio, I'd probably be wise to drop Spanish anyway due to the course load.

That said, I'm going to try to switch from evening Spanish to late afternoon. Getting out of class at 8:10PM and then showing up for chem lab at 7:30AM the next morning is not a schedule designed to ensure domestic tranquility. :) Hi Rob. :)

*wave* I do the same thing - it confuses a lot of people here at work. Out of curiosity, how do you differentiate between Saturday/Sunday? I'm still working on that one - usually ends up being Sa/Su

I normally use S for both. If I have to differentiate, I use a three-letter abbreviation just to be super clear.

I love having single letters for the days. If I remember right, I picked it up from MIT, where class days were all abbreviated with single letters. (Any MIT folk reading this who can confirm or deny?)

Hah! It always feels odd to me to tell a dog "Sientate!" But if he doesn't respond at all to "Sit" and his owners speak Spanish, it's a good bet he'll actually know that one. :-)

Huh. It seems useful to me, too, but I don't think I've ever seen R used for that -- what I thought was the standard was H. I'm not sure where I picked it up from, though!
