Lost journal

I've forgotten the password to one of the freebie LJ accounts I created. Naturally its primary e-mail address is outdated, so I can't do the "reset password" thing.

I'm almost positive it's eight characters long, and I'm pretty sure I know what five of them are. Even if I'm right, though, that still leaves a long search.

Bummer. I haven't written there in ages, but I kinda liked that one. :-(

You should still be able to get them to retrieve it for you--wouldn't hurt to try sending a message.

True, though it might be a bit difficult to convince the support team that I am the person who started that journal. I'd be wary of any system where someone can just show up and say "Reset this journal's password for me? Truly, it's mine, I swear." :-) Maybe there's a way to show who I am.

My guess is that there's a way to prove it's you.

Yeah, unless you set up a 'secret question,' you're out of luck. :(

At least I can keep trying combinations. Let's see, something like eight or ten tries until your IP address gets blocked for trying to crack a password, so try *seven* times and then log in to this one again... I am stubborn enough. But I don't think I'm bored enough.

No secret question set up? They use that, too.

Sadly, no; that's way after my time. :-(

This is way late and you may have already solved the problem, but when does that stop me from commenting??

You could enlist people to help you, if the part of the password you know isn't that big a secret. I would be willing to try a few combinations in my spare time. But, you know, only if there is naughty stuff in there. ;)
