Getting better

Today I've had two huge mugs of herbal tea, about a tablespoon of plain Rice Krispies, and about two tablespoons of vanilla ice cream. (Tummy is grumbling a little about the ice cream.) My bet = pizza by late this evening, unless I fall asleep before then.

I even feel like I have enough blood sugar to drive home. Yay for glycogen and fat. Isn't it cool that we have storage systems? Bodies are impressive.

glad to hear you're feeling better and able to eat and drink. how's the tum pain? did you ever get meds on board? *hugs*

Didn't yet. Abdomen hurty. Oh well... at least I'm getting the rest of the systems up and running! When they're happy, I can do meds.

glad to hear you're moving forward! i hope you don't spend your whole weekend recovering from this.

and you're right: the human body is freaking amazing. and, sometimes, just plain freaky.

So far (Sunday morning) the verdict on the weekend is: not eating a lot, but eating; intestines and lower still NOT HAPPY but tummy basically okay. I'm beginning to wonder what the heck I had (or still have?) here. Fish does not usually give me any kind of effects lasting more than eight hours! I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever poop normally again.

dude, sounds like you got something REALLY nasty. would something like e. coli be a possibility? or a very poorly-time bug that might be circulating your office? at any rate, i hope you continue to improve!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe. If it's e.coli it's not a bad case; there's no blood, I'm able to keep fluids down, etc. That makes me think, though. I should probably check in with a doc on Monday. One medical web site says that any diarrhea that lasts several days is worth a checkup, and mine is not exactly borderline, if you get my meaning. :)

[identity profile] just-cyd.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
if it's that bad, and has gone on for this long, i'd say a call to the doc is definitely in order. i'd think that after a while, mild dehydration and/or nutritional deficiencies might become an issue.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I *think* I'm only mildly dehydrated now, as opposed to Friday when I was probably a prune. Water is at least not coming back up! :)

Bodies are impressive.

Very impressive. But it can also be frustrating that they're such meta-stable systems. Small displacements can push them well over the curve.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
True. The more I see about how well a body can do with what it's got, though, the more impressed I get. It does stuff like heal, fight off infection, store energy in a couple of ways, and regulate its internal temperature. To paraphrase Dave Barry because I'm too lazy to look up the quote, I feed it Cheetos and it makes useful things like glands. It's wacky.

Glad you're doing better!

Bodies are indeed completely wacky and impressive. Ponder, if you will, the bizarre-ness of the average placenta. The female body can grow an entire rather large ORGAN and then DISCARD it with no ill effects. Freaky.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to mention that the female body can grow (support, feed) an entire small HUMAN BEING and then get rid of it. Sometimes two! ;-)

Last time I had stomach flu, I reintroduced myself to food with Gatorade. Calories and much-needed salt, and relatively easy to stomach. And they have it (or Powerade) at pretty much every convenience store.

Worth a try?

I usually do Saltines, which is similar when I think about it: easily-digested carbohydrates and salt!

Ah, there's the problem. It wasn't Rice Krispies you needed ... it was Rice Krispy TREATS.

More SUGAR! Always a win... um... ok, almost never a win, but this is the sort of time when it's a good idea.
