Emotional Flu

Some days I feel like I have the opposite of the Midas touch: everything I touch turns to ash. Two people are unhappy with me, work wants me to work miracles (although they're not particularly unhappy), I can't banter with someone without setting myself up to feel bad for some obscure and unfathomable reason, blah blah blah. I want to crawl under the covers and pull them over my head and not talk to ANYBODY.

Except for dinner tonight. THAT WAS GREAT!!

This must be the emotional equivalent of having the flu.

(If so, dinner was aspirin, or decongestant, or something.)

*decongestant hugs*

Seester, I have days like that. Here's hoping that everything will be *much* better tomorrow!

(nods) I know just what you mean... several days like that lately. Brown thumb syndrome. Periodic social gaffes. Threatened or in-progress breakups. Aargh.

Several days like this, personally, and I may get moody and down (viz. my LJ entries two weeks ago).

(many hugs, emotional analgesic)

We all have days like that. Hell, I recently had a whole month like that, LOL! This too shall pass. I know that's small consolation while it's happening, so in the meantime I'm sending you lots of long-distance hugs & happy thoughts!!

Too bad the dinner wasn't a vaccine. :-/

Hey, maybe it was a cure: I feel better already, don't I? ;-)

Here, let me check!

Yes, Doctor. [waggles eyebrows]

Didja ever watch Red Dwarf? British sci-fi comedy? There was one episode where they explained there were positive viruses as well as negative ones. Luck, for example, was a virus. And those days when you're on top of the world, for absolutely no reason, (Rose is Rose, the comic strip, calls these the 'no-reason happies'), that's when you have the anti-flu.

I think if that's the case, there have to be more negative ones that we've diagnosed. Some days, I'm sure I've got a bad case of Clumsy. Other days, I'm really suffering with Social Inadequacy. And I've got a nearly chronic case of Low Self Esteem.

For your emotional flu, I recommend (says dr. lisa) rest, tea (or another comforting drink if you're not a tea-drinker), more dinners like the one you just had, and for someone special to bring you flowers, or chocolates, or some sort of present. And hiding. You'd be surprised at the theraputic value of hiding ... :

I like that "positive virus" idea!

I am convinced there's a "sleep really poorly for a day" virus. Everyone I know will suddenly have a really bad sleep night ALL AT ONCE.

I like this prescription! Rest I can get... tea I can go get RIGHT NOW, hang on a minnit... there! lemon herbal tea... and maybe I'll hide later on this afternoon. hee. I feel like I'm seven. That's probably just about right. :-)

Hey -- if you're going to have a 7-year-old hiding day -- don't forget the blanket-fort!! The BEST place to hide!! :) :) :)

Ooo, the BLANKET FORT! I wish I'd had YOU for a doctor when I was seven!
