Sent info to Dr. J

There's an anesthesiologist running a pain clinic in New York City. A physician/square-dancer friend of mine recommended him based mainly on the impressiveness of his resume. He's kind of my only remaining hope.

I just sent off a brain-dump to him. Many thanks to Rob for assembling it for me. X-rays, MRIs, the Stanford Pain Clinic writeup, the timeline of all the treatments I've tried...

I'm nervous. Of course.

I'll sacrifice a goat for you, or the non-sectarian equivalent.

Anyway, you're getting all the good thoughts I can send out.

Oh, cool, 'cause I'm all out of non-sectarian goats!

Thanks. :)

Ganked it from [livejournal.com profile] caturday a couple of weeks ago. 'Tis appropriate to the season and mood.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
It sure is! The first couple times I saw it I didn't realize there was a cat INSIDE the pumpkin. Then I figured it out and suddenly it was funny. :)

Hope he comes back with something useful.

If you do end up coming to NYC and need anything, let me know. Depending on the timing, I might even have crash space!

Oh wow, thanks! Pointers to cheap eats and good handicap parking spots are the things I'll probably need most. :-)

Thanks! It's worth a shot, eh? If he's my last hope I may as well TRY.

[personal profile] ken_r 2007-10-18 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Good luck. I hope he can do something to help.

Thanks! I'm not sure I adore the idea of having a lot more of my foot permanently numb, but hey, if I could DO STUFF again it would be worth a great deal.

Is this by any chance the guy that's associated with the Pain Clinic at Beth Israel Hospital? I was just talking to someone who had great things to say about that place. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you - I really hope he has something to offer you. If you do come to New York, let me know - I'll help you out any way I can!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Institute for Pain and Palliative Care. I am guessing it's not the same, but honestly I have no clue. :-)

Thank you so much!!

I keep making resolutions to get back to LJ, and I keep running out of time, so I've missed other posts, but I'm really glad I saw this one!

[livejournal.com profile] momomom has a Morton's neuroma too. We were taking a limp around the small lake the other day, and I told her about you. She highly recommended a particular clinic -- of course I've forgotten who it was (I have a mind like a steel ... sieve), but you can go to her journal and talk to her about it, or I can ask her again (and actually write it down).

It's only about 200 miles from NYC to here -- under 4 hours by Amtrak or rental car. Possibly you could arrange to see both while you're on the east coast, and maybe one of them will have an answer.

Even though I haven't been around LJ much lately, I have been thinking about you. I've lit candles for you during Joys and Concerns at church, and I'll continue sending you good energy!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh nifty! Actually, what I have is way more complicated than a Morton's neuroma by now. Those were excised -- I saw them lying on the table -- and I've still got trouble. But if there's a clinic that's good with idiopathic peripheral neuropathy, I'm eager to hear about it!

And thank you so much. *big hug*.

[identity profile] moriamerri.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Having just done a search on idiopathic peripheral neuropathy
I thought I'd ask if you know about these people:
http://millercenter.uchicago.edu/learnaboutpn/aboutus/index.shtml
"Jack Miller Center for peripheral neuropathy"

Not that I know anything about the place beyond looking at their website.
And not that I personally feel deeply optimistic about this direction for
finding answers. (Note: don't read that as a lack of optimism..... it is not.
My optimism runs in other directions is all....)

BTW, have you noticed that many organizations (like the one above) have
names that can be read as "in favor" of "given disease". I mean, let's
hope that the place is not FOR (in favor of) peripheral neuropathy.
Maybe rename to "Jack Miller Center for elimination of peripheral neuropathy"
or "Jack Miller Center for relief from peripheral neuropathy".
Whatever, but the FOR bugs me from time to time.

Oh, and I was searching to see if I had the right general ideas about what
it is -- which I did. I don't remember hearing this DX for your feet before.

Moria

Let us know if you need a place to stay.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-10-26 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, thanks! Depending on how it goes, I may be able to snag a lunch or something like that, even if I'm not there overnight.

[identity profile] stormecho.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have my number? I believe it's updated in a certain database.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-11-05 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
If it is, then I can find it with no problem. :-) Thanks!!

(No word from the doctor himself yet. My mail may have been eaten by a spam filter bot.)
