Choreo, HP, wrists, flying, books

I am now almost two days behind on writing material for a dance in August. If I let myself get any behinder I'll have an awful time catching up.

My copy of Harry Potter won't arrive "on time". Given the previous paragraph, that's probably good.

My wrists haven't hurt since Sunday. One of them is still popping a lot, but it might not be all that abnormal. They've always sounded a bit like Rice Krispies. I'll start on the water rower again this coming weekend.

My favorite taildragger instructor is too busy to fly this weekend. So is the next person I asked. The person she in turn recommended won't be ready to start for a week or two. Woe is me. Given that first paragraph, this too is probably good.

Anybody have an Amazon associates referral link they can point me at real quick? I have a large order going in from (and for) work, and I get no points for referring *myself* to buy books. Somebody might as well get the couple bucks. First reply wins all.

I'm pretty sure Joe has one someplace

Good point, although I'm feeling remarkably lazy about tracking something like that down. I figure the intarwebs will do the work for me, and in return, *poof* a tiny bit of money! :-)

damn! that'll show me for dragging my heels on amazon associate setup...

Back when I set it up you could get the benefits of your own book orders. Now that it's not that way, there's a lot less point to it, at least for me!

heh, well, helping our friends is always nice. :)

if you have a referral link let me know. i expect to have some book ordering to do soon.

Woohoo! Amazon via CJ

It would be way cool to simply set up a ring of these. You use mine, I use [livejournal.com profile] fuzzygruf's, he uses Rob's, Rob uses yours... that sort of thing.

[identity profile] layer.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
i'm sure we wouldn't be the first. :)

fuzzygruf.com/shop.php (http://fuzzygruf.com/shop.php)

The referral link is top right.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
You have now successfully recommended one metric buttload of Ruby developer manuals. :-)

I'm all about the metric buttloads. Thanks!

Just curious, what do you do for your wrists in terms of stretching, strengthening, and general niceness?

I keyboard a lot for my job, and the Pawanmuktasans series I has been a godssend. It's a set of rotations, opens and closes, and a few other things, which taken together are really nice for keeping things happy and stretched out, altho the popping and such when I first started these exercises did scare the wits out of me.

It might be something to do as a general idea, if you're not already giving your wrists and arms some of the Good Love.

Honestly, there's very little I do for them on a regular basis these days. I think the best love I ever gave them was good posture and regular practice on the piano while I was still growing. My wrists and hands are unusually limber and flexible. Despite extreme (!!) provocation, I've never been greatly hampered by tendinitis, unlike quite a few of my colleagues. But aside from a few stretches I stole from aikido, I'm resting on my laurels now. That's probably not a great idea.

More info on the Pawanmuktasans series please?

Huzzah, not-hurting wrists! I don't know if Rice Krispie noises are abnormal or not; every part of my body pops like bubble wrap, which is deeply disconcerting to most people when it happens around them the first time ("Your neck! Are you okay?! Is it broken?!").

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of me pops pretty loudly too. Fingers, toes, wrists, hips, and occasionally something that feels like a tailbone are all things I can pop by myself. Much to my frustration, I need a chiropractor to pop my back and neck. I've long envied Rob for his ability to crunch his upper back and his neck just by twisting himself a bit.

Can you pull your shoulders out? My ligaments are a little too long (dangerous, I know), and I can pull my left arm just far enough out of my shoulder that it looks REALLY WEIRD. It won't pop, though.

[identity profile] tiger-spot.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot pull my shoulders out as far as I know. I have dislocated one before, when I was little. (Also an elbow.) That was extremely painful, and tends to discourage me from trying.

OWWWWW! That is Bad! :-O

Fortunately, I have a really bad memory, so about all I retain from the experiences is (a) what an x-ray machine looks like and (b) a good strong sense of Don't Do That Again.
