Useless Blob

Everybody else is adopting blobs. I decided I needed to adopt a teenage blob with heavy acne. (Hey, I still have acne. Who better to understand the fragile feelings of this sweet young blob?)

Adopt your own useless blob!

You have a lot of free time on your hands, huh? :-)

(We'll ignore the delta of the timestamp of your message and mine.)

Yeah, and we'll ignore the delta on this one, too. 8-)

Fortunately, adopting a blob takes very little time.

Well, yes, but after my initial reply, none of it really counts because we'll be emailed about it from here on out. Being attentive to mail can be mildly geeky, but it doesn't show the social retardation implied by compulsively clicking reload on live journal when you should be working.

Of course, this sort of thing is encouraged by my work environment. Within immediate eyeshot of my seat, two co-workers are practicing juggling, about six people are fetching free discarded 15" monitors that are up for grabs, three people are having a stress ball fight, our most senior developer is loudly singing, "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells, Robin Laid an Egg," and as near as I can tell, exactly one person appears to have source code on his monitor. It isn't clear that he is actually doing anything with it, but it is some evidence of the fact that he has at least looked at it today.

I wonder if this is what was intended during our annual meeting the other day when company leadership told us that we were relying on the "magic to happen."

Fortunately, with files of the size I'm using now, I have frequent chunks of time during which I can compulsively click reload on LiveJournal when I am working.

I'll pretend that that's always how I'm doing it. :-)

Oh my. I'd heard about work environments like that, but I've never actually seen one. Maybe your company leadership is waiting for the stock to hit a high so they can quit their jobs and still afford their Hummers?

My, aren't we cynical? :-) No, I think the leadership is serious and hopeful, and I think this place has a real chance.

I was being a teensy bit sarcastic about that line, but I'm generally both happy and optimistic here.

My, aren't we cynical? :-)

Only sometimes. :-) I didn't mean to be snide here, though, merely humorous.

No, I think the leadership is serious and hopeful, and I think this place has a real chance.

Cool! I hate working at a place without having that feeling about it.

It's a cute little blob. As for the acne, I still get pimples sometimes, and I'll be 48 in July. Don't worry 'bout it. You're a babe, if the pictures and Mary's fulsome comments are any indication.

*blush* thanks! I put up only the pictures that don't look like I have some hideous disease. :-)
