Oops.

I'm back to that business trip I mentioned a few days ago. I was supposed to be finished on Friday, but I think maybe I'm the only one who was still holding out any hope for that. I came back to San Diego late last night (after a lovely all-expenses-paid trip back to my house to do laundry) and I will stay here until we are done. By now it's looking a little less grim. We've got only a few things left to do, and I and my team might finish within (sigh) two days of the initial deadline.

So I thought "Wow! We've made great progress!" and when I got kicked out of the partner company's building precisely at 6:30 as expected, I went to my hotel's free happy hour before heading upstairs...

... and boy was that a mistake. I can barely THINK. I couldn't operate the ELEVATOR. (I went to the floor I'd been on last week.) CJ, reminder to self: you are a lightweight when it comes to wine. Especially if you haven't had eight hours of sleep in a row for multiple weeks.

Man, was that ever dumb.

Well, in another couple of hours I ought to be conscious again, and then maybe I can fix a few bugs.

It's really humbling to find myself unable to operate an elevator. Dayum.

I made contact with [livejournal.com profile] rfrench and picked up the repair manuals, spare tire, and chains. Thanks again to you both!

He suggests that sometime in the future, (when our mutual schedules allow), I should go on an airplane ride for you (for practice 'n' fun). It has been a very long time since I was up in a small aircraft. I think my last flight (an orientation flight with a pilot volunteering his time) was over 15 years ago. (I know my scrap of ground school at the US Space Academy (http://www.spacecamp.com) was at least as long ago & that was in 1989.) I've been on a few commercial flights since, but no small aircraft.

I hope the rest of the business trip goes smoothly & you can return to a respite from work stress

You're very welcome. And yes, some time when I'm sane and our schedules intersect, going up in an airplane together would indeed be fun. (US Space Academy, *whimper* that sounds wonderful!)

Thanks! Here's to a chance to drink a glass of wine in my OWN HOME some time soon.

Perhaps this is the Universe telling you to drink more.

That or sleep more! ...Nah, you're right. :-)

But did you get sleep?

I did get some, yeah... after sobering up and fixing a few bugs. :) Now it's Free Hotel Breakfast time!

Could be fun... Depending...

Bwahahaha! :) Hope the rest of the trip went/is going swimmingly. Good luck!
