What happened to LJ? Again?

I used to see my individual posts in a fairly minimalist style -- not quite Lynx, but the shaded bars above people's comments were "gray" and "grayer", not blue, they had narrower margins, and there wasn't a big ugly blue menu system with my picture all over the top of the page.

Now my update page and any individual posts I look at DO have the big ugly blue menu system, and the page with an individual post has wider margins and shows the blue comment bars. (There are probably other differences.)

Apparently my "scheme" is Horizon. Perhaps I used to have another, cleaner scheme, but it went away and this is the substitute? Perhaps there's merely a new setting that has defaulted to new behavior, and I could change it to get things back the way they were?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

[edit: got it! I got switched off of the Lynx "scheme". I'm back to it now and happy as a clam! [how happy ARE clams??]]

I did go there. That's how I know my "scheme" is Horizon. What do you suggest I do on that page?

...got it! [livejournal.com profile] platypus told me to try out the other schemes just to see, and sure enough, Lynx looks awful darn familiar.

Thanks!

Sorry I didn't check my email quick enough, but glad you got it fixed!

What [livejournal.com profile] dizzdvl said.

Also note the "view comment pages in your style" checkbox farther down on http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/ , which standardizes everyone else's individual entry pages to your style, so long as you got there from a link on your own friends page. You can also append ?style=mine to any individual entry URL to get it displayed in your viewing style; I learned the manual option after following one too many links to totally illegible entry pages!

I am old skool; I still use Dystopia. I can't abide java menus. Alas, Dystopia's so old and hoary that they're actually not going to update it with new features anymore, they say. I just hate having to use a non-obvious menu system on a webpage rather than simply having everything laid out in the header and sidebars.

I did go to that page; that's how I know my "scheme" is Horizon. What should I change there?

(I have the "view comment pages in your style" checkbox checked; have for years.)

Do any of the other styles look more like what you're used to? XColibur was the dominant style for several years, so you might try switching to that and seeing if it brings things back to normal. Horizon's the default now, so on the occasions when your viewing preferences go wonky, that's what it will revert to.

Switch around the schemes and see what I get, you mean? OK, I'll try that. Thanks!

Wow. LYNX! That's really what I must have had!

Thank you so much. This was the clue I needed. I don't know why it changed, but at least I can always come back here and remind myself what to change it BACK to.

Wow, Lynx? That's pretty impressive :).

I used to websurf with the Lynx browser, back when my only computer was a Mac Plus...

I did too! :-) Even though I'm in a spiffoid modern browser now, I use Lynx style for simplicity. I probably switched to it when I was on an ancient computer with an ancient rev of Firefox and I simply couldn't render anything else before dying of old age.

I assume they're happy, but when I ask them they usually clam up :)

p.s. Clams got legs!!!!

p.s. Clams got legs!!!!

Is THAT why they're happy? Why, I should be happy too! I've got two legs!

Actually, "happy as a clam" is short for "happy as a clam at high tide."

So now you know.

Hey, cool! :)

Happy Clams

Glad you gave the complete reference. Clams need high tide!
