Yuck

I am SICK. Yesterday I thought maybe; today there is no doubt. My throat feels swollen and it hurts to swallow. I looked in the mirror with a flashlight, thinking it felt like my tonsils were swollen, but no, it's farther back than that. And among the redness there are a couple of white dots. Greeeeaaaat. So much for the ski weekend.

Of course this happens to coincide with the day I'm falling off my monthly naproxen sodium ride, which means my stomach is churning and I have a massive headache. If I weren't so embarrassed about not getting certain stuff done at work I'd be HOME!!

*sigh* Well, by the end of the day the headache and stomach problems should be gone. And if I can get my work done TOO, then I can sleep a bunch!

Owie! If you've got white spots, watch for a fever or bad breath. Either could mean strep throat, and then it won't matter what work you have to do, because you'll be pretty dang contagious.

I'm probably contagious anyway, which worries me. If this isn't what Rob just had, I may already have given it to him. I've also told all my coworkers to stay away from me (one advantage of a computer job is that I really can work in physical isolation). The last thing we need is the whole team down.

Yuck. Being sick sucks.

I'll be out in your neck of the woods next month, presenting a concert (of music from the U of Florida with my major professor) at Stanford on March 14 (and perhaps SJSU the 15th). Never been to CA at all, so it should be an interesting trip, and I head out there 3 days after Kimmy and I return from Seattle. Talk about jet-lagged!

I am a huge fan of John Steinbeck, and the centennial of his birth is in late March... it will pain me to be so (relatively) close to Salinas at such a time and not get to go, but this trip is just too jam-packed with stuff for such an excursion.

You rock! Can random induhviduals come to this concert? Will Kimmy be with you for this trip?

Skip the three days in Florida, come straight from Seattle, and see Salinas! :-) Salinas is SO close!!

I had thought about the possibility of staying out West, considering that I have a friend in Berkeley I couple probably stay with, but there's a lot I need to do those couple of days I will be back; most of all, Kimberly hates flying, and I could not subject her to a cross-country flight on her own. She will not be with me on the trip to CA.

As for the concert, I am certain it will be open to the public. The concert is being produced by the contemporary music department at Stanford, known as CCRMA. I have a couple of friends who teach music at SJSU, and they are trying to get something together, but I have not heard back just yet.

I hope you can get the critical stuff wrapped up this afternoon and then get yourself safely home. (If you're feeling bad enough that it might affect your ability to drive, staying a little late to let the worst traffic dissipate might be a good idea.)

I also hope you can get in to see your doctor for a throat culture soon. If that is strep, the best possible thing will be a course of antibiotics. (Even with the undesirable side effects.)

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2002-02-21 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I always wait for the worst traffic to dissipate. Well, except on days when I call; then I have to be home at a certain time. My commute is eleven minutes at 9PM, but thirty at 7PM. Yuck.

So far I'm not too miserable. The side effects of my run of painkillers are slowly dissipating, thank goodness. Better take my temp soon though...

What about at 2pm?

if (CJ.has(strep_throat)) {
CJ.take(antibiotics);
}

Should I open a new bug on this, or do you already have it in your source tree?

Get your butt home and get some rest! That's an order. No job is worth it when you are sick!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2002-02-21 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[grin] Yes ma'am! I think I just might. I mean, it sure is a great excuse. :-)

Go home and have some chicken soup.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2002-02-21 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo yeah! I even have some lying around the house. Campbell's, but hey, I ain't gonna cook chicken soup from scratch, so Campbell's is haute cuisine for me! :-)

[identity profile] gs.livejournal.com 2002-02-21 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know what you mean. I have trouble getting them to stay in the pot long enough. They always manage to escape somehow. It's almost like they don't want to be cooked...

Soup in a can, huh. What will they think of next. Pre-sliced bread, I suppose. Now that would be something!

I hope you get feeling better soon.
